Dolcetto d'Alba DOC
Luciano Sandrone
|
Dolcetto
|
2008
|
88+/100 Punkte Parker Oct, 2009 The 2008 Dolcetto d'Alba is a pretty, mid-weight offering with attractive dark fruit, licorice, spices and a characteristic slightly bitter (but not unpleasant) note on the finish. Like so many Dolcettos in 2008, a measure of concentration that this wine usually shows is missing. Still, this is one of the more polished, refined Dolcettos of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2011.
89+/100 Punkte Stephen Tanzer, Nov/Dec 09 Bright, deep red-ruby. Lovely lift to the pure aromas of blackberry, violet and mint. Juicy, minty and tightly wound, displaying terrific freshness, focus and cut. Finishes clean and long. This may well merit an outstanding rating in a year or so.

90/100 Punkte Parker Oct 2009 The 2007 Barbera d'Alba is a ripe, generous red that caresses the palate with waves of silky, textured fruit. This impeccable, elegant Barbera reveals terrific persistence and a long, polished finish. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2012.
91/100 Punkte Stephen Tanzer, Nov/Dec 09 Saturated ruby. Deep, pure aromas of black raspberry and bitter chocolate. Sweet, lush and deep, with uncommon density and breadth for barbera. Highly concentrated flavors of blackberry, cassis and minerals linger impressively on the gripping finish.

90/100 Punkte Parker Oct 2009 Sandrone's 2007 Nebbiolo d'Alba Valmaggiore reveals sweet dried roses, cherries, flowers and spices on an expansive, mid-weight frame. Ripe, refined tannins frame the elegant and subtle finish. In 2007 the Valmaggiore shows impeccable balance and tons of class. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2017.

2005
|
94/100 Punkte Parker Apr 2009 The 2005 Barolo Le Vigne opens with fresh, high-toned aromas that meld into a core of perfumed red fruits. There is notable vibrancy to the fruit, and although the 2005 is a relatively small-scaled vintage for this wine, the balance is exceptional. The Le Vigne has more than enough fruit to follow through all the way to the close, where notes of raspberry jam offer a final burst of intensity. Le Vigne is made from a number of parcels in Vignane (Barolo), Conterni and Ceretta (Monforte) and Merli (Novello). In 2005 the harvest took place in the first two weeks of October. The wines were vinified separately, then racked into 500-liter barrels. The final blend was assembled in the summer of 2006. Every year I taste through the various parcels separately and every year I am amazed by the way the final blend transcends the quality of the individual wines. Simply put, Le Vigne is a gem of a wine from Luciano Sandrone. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2021.

2004
|
96/100 Punkte Parker Dec 2007 The 2004 Barolo Le Vigne is a phenomenal effort. Sweet, long and pure, it reveals an expansive core of perfumed ripe red fruit, flowers and spices. Despite its notable concentration it is made in a restrained style, showing remarkable elegance as well as harmony, with superb length and finessed tannins on the close. Le Vigne is made from the Ceretta, Vignane, Merli and Conterni vineyards. I have tasted the wines from these plots separately on many occasions. Curiously, I have never been particularly impressed by any of the wines on their own, yet when they are blended the results can be extraordinary, as is the case with the sublime 2004 Le Vigne. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2019.

2005
|
95/100 Punkte Parker Apr 2009 Sandrone's 2005 Barolo Cannubi Boschis offers up pretty notes of mint, flowers, spices and dark red berries, with sweet notes of French oak that linger on the finish. This is a decidedly slender Cannubi Boschis that lacks some of the sheer pedigree and explosiveness of the best vintages. The tannins need some time to soften, but this is a wine that has continued to grow in bottle. It could very well turn out to be one of the vintage#s surprises. In 2005 the harvest took place at the end of September and the wine was aged in 500-liter barrels (one-third new). Anticipated maturity: 2011-2020.

2000
|
92/100 Punkte Parker Aug 2005 The 2000 Barolo Le Vigne is structured, powerful on the nose with notes of licorice, tar, and macerated cherries, dense and solid in flavor, more muscular than usual and slightly tough on the finish. Time may help these tannins, and the wine can best be drunk between 2006 and 2018.

2001
|
93/100 Punkte Parker Oct 2006 Sandrone's dark ruby-colored 2001 Barolo Le Vigne presents a fantastic nose of flowers, minerals and crushed raspberries followed by generous amounts of very ripe red fruits, mint and eucalyptus notes with well-integrated oak and fine tannins. It is noticeably more structured than the 2000, with more balance, freshness and a longer finish. Traditional in design, but modern in execution, the 2001 Barolo Le Vigne presents tremendous harmony and elegance. Ideally a few years of cellaring are warranted although the wine is already drinking well today. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019.
