The 2010 Il Blu is 50% Sangiovese with some Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in oak for up to 20 months. This gorgeous wine shows incredible seamlessness with smooth aromas of cherry and blackberry that fold neatly into savory tones of spice and leather. The quality of the winemaking is impeccable. Il Blu is especially profound in the mouth, where it shows supple tannins and long persistency. It boasts integrated acidity and well-managed tannins. The 2010 vintage shows youthful, nervous energy that bodes well for its future evolution.

A serious red with currant, raspberry and citrus aromas and flavours. Full body with silky tannins and a fruity finish. A gorgeous red. A blend of sangiovese, merlot and cabernet sauvignon. You want to drink this now but it will improve wonderfully with age: better to open in 2015.

A landmark wine on all levels, the 2011 Il Blu really seems to love the heat of the vintage. Barbara Widmer says that heat spikes followed by intermittent cool spells helped to establish complexity in her wines. Il Blu is 50% Sangiovese, 45% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose is painted in broad strokes of espresso bean, black cherry, baking spice and moist tobacco. The mouthfeel is infinitely soft and supple.

Charakterwein mit Noten von reifen Brombeeren, Kirschen und Pflaumen. Dazu edles Holz, ein Hauch Tabak. Finesse, Kraft und Struktur am Gaumen. Vibrierende Säure und feinkörnig eingebundene Tannine verleihen Schmelz und Länge. 2016 bis 2025.

This is a ground-breaking wine that always challenges the imagination and your tastebuds. The Brancaia 2012 Il Blu is a blend of 50% Sangiovese, 45% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. It's important to say that the vintage heat does leave its mark. The wine is dark, succulent and jammy as a result. Dried black cherry and plum play leading roles. As does the powerful 14.5% alcohol that comes off as a little too evident in this edition. Annual bottle production for Il Blu is about 20 ,000.

The 2012 Il Blu is very pretty in this vintage. A host of dark red cherry, blueberry, mint, wild flowers and spices open up first. High-toned, floral notes from the Sangiovese add an attractive upper register to the sumptuous, open-knit fruit. The 2012 is a relatively open Il Blu that will drink well with minimal cellaring. A blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, Il Blu remains one of the most distinctive of the internationally styled wines in Tuscany.

Aromas of black cherry, black currant and herbs carry through to the palate, along with cherry and raspberry flavors. Balanced and firm, with a touch of oak and a long finish. Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2013 through 2024. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.

Im Duft fruchtgetragen, Brombeer, dunkle Kirsche, Süßmandel, mit Luft Cassis. Erste Entwicklungstendenzen. Weicher, fruchtigmilder Auftakt. Viel mineralische Substanz. Trotz der offenen Zugänglichkeit auch hintergündig.

Intense aromas of blackberries and currants follow through to a full body, with a gorgeous core of ripe fruit and ultra-fine tannins. It remains fresh and beautiful. So delicious now but better in 2015. A blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best wine ever from here.

The 2014 Chianti Classico is a beautiful wine with sharp focus and brightness. The wine is loaded with energy and verve. Despite the negative comments you hear about this vintage, this wine demonstrates that hard work and careful fruit selection can make the difference. This base Chianti Classico is composed of 100% Sangiovese. Brancaia is best known for its excellent results with international grape varieties, but they have no problem making first-rate Sangiovese as well.

Freshly cut flowers, bright red-fleshed fruit and a touch of French oak blossom nicely in the glass. The inclusion of Merlot gives the Riserva lovely mid-palate pliancy and depth. The 2013 Chianti Classico Riserva hits all the high notes expected of this historic denomination. The wine is brimming with cherry fruit and luscious darkness with spice, leather and unsweetened chocolate. The blend is 80% Sangiovese and 20% Merlot, and the wine is aged in medium toast barrique (both new and neutral) for 16 months. Like the other successful interpretations from this classic vintage, this expression reveals an impressive sense of balance. If I had to make a 2013 Chianti Classico short list, this wine would be on it.
