This generous red delivers rich flavors of blackberry, currant, toast and mineral, which are harmonious over the well-integrated tannins, showing firm acidity for balance and a long finish of spice and smoke. Not showy, but deep and alluring. Drink now through 2030.

The 2014 Malleolus is sourced from vines ranging between 25 and 75 years of age, fermented in stainless steel vats with their own selected yeasts, followed by an élevage of 18 months in used French oak barriques. This is just bottled, yet the wine feels very harmonious, and in 2014 it seems to combine power with good freshness. It's a good expression of the Emilio Moro style, generous wines that are generously oaked and hedonistic, lush and ripe, nicely balanced by the character of the year. This has to be one of the finest Malleolus vintages so far.

(26 days of maceration in large French oak tanks, followed by malo in new American oak barrels and them18 months of aging in new French barriques): Inky purple. Deep, brooding, intensely perfumed aromas of dark berry preserves, licorice and incense, with vanilla and Indian spice notes adding complexity. Plush and broad in the mouth, offering sweet blueberry and cherry-vanilla flavors and a strong jolt of smoky minerals. Plays power off finesse with a deft hand and finishes smooth and very long, with supple tannins lending shape and gentle grip.

The other single-vineyard Tempranillo is the 2011 Malleolus de Sancho Martín, always the more backward of the two. It is sourced from a small (0.84-hectare) single plot of vines planted in 1964 on chalk soils that provide more austere wines. It went through malo in French barriques, better suited for wines from chalky soils. Like the rest of the top of the range, it matured in French oak barrels for some 18 months before bottling. Although it feels a little reticent, it slowly develops notes of minerals, red and black fruit, spices and nicely integrated oak. The palate also shows good integration, balance and elegance, with chalky tannins that are very fine and a finish where the oak-related flavors are intermixed with subtle minerality, giving it a little salty sensation. It will be much better with some time in bottle. Only 2,500 bottles produced.

Inky purple. Heady, oak-spiced aromas of dark berry compote, licorice, vanilla and mocha. Broad, fleshy and sweet, offering intense black and blue fruit flavors that are lifted and sharpened by juicy acidity. Becomes smokier and spicier with air, finishing with velvety tannins, a whiplash of vanillin oak and outstanding persistence.

Powerful and polished, this ripe yet fresh red shows blackberry, cassis and plum flavors, framed by floral, cola and spice notes. The muscular tannins are well-integrated, keeping the wine fresh through the finish. Will need time to open. Best from 2015 through 2025.

The top of the range of all reds produced with Tempranillo is the 2011 Clon de La Familia, a blend of three vineyards that were planted with the original Tempranillo clone from their old family vineyards on the three different soils they have: clay, chalk and stone. The wine went through malo and 18 months élevage in new French barriques. It's rich, ripe, heady and generously-oaked; it's an expression of modern Ribera del Duero, a wine that José Moro defines as 'honest,' with those blackcurrants, licorice, and fennel aromas coated by sweet spices and smoke. It has a faint reductive personality, so an energetic decanting would not be out of place. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with some dusty, fine-grained tannins, and moderate acidity that make it both powerful and soft-textured. Give it some bottle aging
