94/100 Punkte Robert Parker December 2018 The 2014 El Terroir has a little more depth and complexity than the previous year, even if both vintages were cold and rainy, but this 2014 seems to have more complexity, depth and nuance. It's medium bodied with fine-grained tannins and has very good balance. This cuvée seems to be improving vintage after vintage, they keep working their same vineyards, they keep improving their knowledge, and they are more experienced. The barrels are older and the integration is better. This is earthier and a little wilder than La Dama.
94/100 Punkte Robert Parker December 2018 It felt like the 2015 El Terroir was more austere than the 2014, even if the year was more generous, especially on the palate, where the wine shows strong minerality. It's more telluric than 2014, a slightly darker shade of blue, and it opens up with time in the glass. This wine has achieved a very good level, with a rare combination of power and elegance, especially in this 2015. 26,315 bottles were filled in May 2017.
95/100 Punkte Robert Parker April 2020 The 2016 El Terroir comes from a selection of their organic and biodynamically farmed plots, fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured between 11 and 13 months, depending on the plot, in mostly used and mostly 500- and 600-liter oak barrels. They now only replace around 8% of the barrels each vintage, so they are quite well seasoned and neutral, and the wines don't have any oak aromas or flavors. It has crunchy fruit, red rather than black fruit, and the wine is super fresh. The oak is much better integrated than the initial vintages#it's transparent with the wine, and you feel the fresh fruit, the rain, the soil#as a result, the wine is relaxed, harmonious and has light. This is a more complete and deeper version of the 2013, with the freshness and acidity with long life ahead. The wines show incremental improvements year after year, and the 2016 has probably helped to obtain the most complete vintage to date. It's long, tasty, has fine c
91/100 Punkte Wine Spectator October 2019 This red is dense yet plush, with blackberry and espresso flavors, accented by licorice, wild herb and mineral notes. Well-integrated tannins and balsamic acidity keep this focused. Harmonious, in a savory style. Garnacha, Merlot, Cariñena, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2027.
93/100 Punkte Robert Parker Feb 2018 The eponymous red 2015 Exopto is an atypical blend of 70% Graciano from the south, a grape that can keep very good acidity and ripens nicely in warmer vintages (like 2015) and 30% Tempranillo from old vines. In previous vintages, the wine had less Graciano and some 10% Garnacha, but they didn't like what the Garnacha did to the blend in 2015, so they left it out for the first time ever. It fermented in 1,500-liter oak vats with indigenous yeasts, daily pigéage and malolactic in barrel in the spring. The wine matured in 225- and 500-liter oak casks, and they have reduced the new oak to some 30%. Even though they have reduced the new oak and gone for larger volumes, it's still a little marked by the oak and might need some more time in bottle to finish integrating, because there is very nice stuffing here. It has very healthy acidity that should help it develop nicely in bottle. This is elegant and open, less stressed by tannins, within the power
91/100 Punkte Fallstaff, Juli 2020 Helles Gelbgrün, Silberreflexe. Blütenhonig unterlegt reife Apfelfrucht, zart nach Quitte, Kräuternoten. Saftig, elegant, eingebundener Säurebogen, tabakig, Apfelnoten im Abgang, bereits gut antrinkbar.
92/100 Punkte James Suckling, September 2020 A layered, fruity white with a tight palate of dried pear, apple and some lemon. Minerally undertone. It#s full-bodied, yet tight and focused. Lovely citrusy undertone to this. From organically grown grapes. Drink now. Screw cap.
97/100 Punkte James Suckling, October 2018 Very pristine and youthful with a stunning combination of concentration and grace on the palate. This is one of the highlights of the vintage for Austria's signature grape. Very long, cool finish with a slew of herbs and minerals. From biodynamically grown grapes. Respekt certified. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
92+/100 Punkte Robert Parker, March 2020 From 60+-year-old vines, Ott's 2018 Grüner Veltliner Ried Feuersbrunner Rosenberg 1ÖTW is deep, pure and fresh but also ripe and yeasty on the precisely mineral and iodine-scented nose. Round, lush and intense on the densely textured palate, this is a full-bodied, rich and powerful yet refreshing Veltliner with a hint of caramel on the finish but even more salts and tension. This has a terroir-driven soul but is also characterized by the warm vintage. The Rosenberg is not really massive but truly rich and powerful. The grapes were picked very early, but in contrast to other producers, there are no hints of unripeness or drying phenols. Tasted at Schloss Grafenegg in September 2019 and in my home office in December.
94/100 Punkte James Suckling, Dezember 2019 Aromas of fresh grasses, herbs and spiced apple lead to a gently flinty palate that has quite a succulent texture. Apple and lemon flavors provide a fresh finish. Very pure, ethereal textural quality here. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
91-92/100 Punkte Robert Parker Jun 2016 The 2015 Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Loibner Steinertal is a medium to full-bodied wine with a very nice and mineral acidity and a refreshing bright fruit flavor. Tightly woven but very elegant and with grip. Very promising.
92-93/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 31, 2017 The 2016 Ried Steinertal Grüner Veltliner Smaragd is from the coolest Grüner Veltliner single vineyard of the Pichler family, with sandy gneiss and granite soils. The 2016 opens with a clear and fresh but also intense fruit aroma that is still a bit discreet on the nose. The attack on the palate is really fresh and piquant due to remarkable acidity. The wine is pure and mineral, shows a good phenolic grip and reveals white fruit aromas like yellow-skinned apples. The finish is clear, fresh and grippy and shows some attractive crispy fruit flavors. This is a lean, elegant, well balanced, medium to full-bodied Grüner Veltliner with less than 13% alcohol. Tasted as a sample in early July 2017. Scheduled for bottling in late July 2017.
96/100 Punkte James Suckling A stunning mirabelle, herbal and flinty nose that's as intense as it is delicate. The muscular leanness of a long-distance runner combined with enormous minerality make this a very special grüner veltliner with an extremely long, exciting finish. You could drink it now, but this will age for at least a couple of decades.
96-98+/100 Punkte Robert Parker, March 2020 Tasted as a barrel sample in September, the 2018 Grüner Veltliner Unendlich is terribly pure and mineral on the nose. Based on the fruits of predominantly Kellerberg and Liebenberg with about 10% of Kollmütz (which is not part of the 2017), the bouquet is clear, fresh and flinty, very deep and mineral, with aromas of white-pepper berries. Rich and fruity on the palate, this is a powerful but also finessed and elegant Veltliner with still a lot of bitters. The 2018 will be aged on the lees for another eight months and will gain finesse. Tasted at the domain in September 2019.
94/100 Punkte Robert Parker, March 2020 The 2018 Ried Kellerberg Grüner Veltliner Smaragd is coolish, fresh and deep on the flinty and stony as well herbal nose with its tobacco flavors. Complex as always. Full-bodied, rich and elegant on the palate, this is a structured, spicy-piquant, tannic and very mineral Veltliner with a long and complex, tightly woven and unique finish. This is a great, slowly developing Veltliner with remarkable elegance, finesse and mineral freshness. Quite powerful on the aftertaste. Bottled in August 2019 and tasted at the domain in September.
97/100 Punkte James Suckling, September 2020 Enormously ripe with a ton of apricot and exotic-fruit coulis. Although this is a giant gruner veltliner with staggering concentration and some creaminess, it remains so focused and precise with a very long, clean finish. This is one you can put away in the cellar for many, many years. Drink or hold.
96/100 Punkte James Suckling, September 2020 All the depth and power of this very warm site, but it#s diamond-bright. Tons of pipe tobacco and just a whisker of exotic fruit, but not the slightest hint of opulence, thanks to the lively acidity. Deep and complex, spicy finish. Drink or hold.
98/100 Punkte James Suckling, September 2020 Very full-bodied with Grand Cru Burgundy-like personality, but there#s still only a hint of exotic fruit. The tannin-mineral-acidity structure is really extraordinary, because not only does it give the wine such sharp contours, but it also provides a very clean, intense finish. Drink or hold.
96/100 Punkte James Suckling, September 2020 Super cool in every sense of the word, also thanks to the wonderful herbal complexity and very elegant balance. So bright, pure and precise, in spite of the considerable mineral power. Great aging potential. Drink or hold.
98/100 Punkte James Suckling, September 2020 So deep, yet so bright. So concentrated, yet so light on its feet, thanks to the miraculous balance between power and enough freshness to animate all the exotic-fruit and spicy character (think fresh mango chutney). Enormous depth at the finish. Only just beginning to show its paces. Drink or hold.
90/100 Punkte Robert Parker Nov 2017 This is Fattoria di Magliano's flagship wine. The 2015 Morellino di Scansano Heba (95% Sangiovese with 5% Syrah) flows forth with bright cherry and wild berry aromas. This wine is fermented in stainless steel and aged in cement vats to preserve the brightness and the integrity of the primary fruit. In this warm vintage, that primary fruit is naturally bold, ripe and dark in color and concentration.
