    Falstaff 93/100

    93/100 Punkte Falstaff April 2019

92/100 Punkte Robert Parker, Oct 2019
The 2016 Sicilia Adènzia is equal parts Nero d'Avola and Syrah from the heart of the Mediterranean. This is a robust and velvety-textured red wine that makes a natural pairing partner to meat or pasta with ragù. The wine speaks in clear tones with well-enunciated elements of black fruit, spice, leather and tobacco. The Syrah seems to make the biggest impact in terms of bouquet, and the Nero d'Avola guides the mid-weight nature of the palate. This wine is simple, bright and fun to drink.

    Parker 91/100

91/100 Punkte Robert Parker Dec 2019
The second wine in the price hierarchy is the 2017 Almirez, produced with vines aged 10 to 35 years old from their 72 hectares of vineyards in the villages of Valdefinjas and Toro. It fermented in stainless steel and matured in French oak barrels, 30% of them new, the rest second use, for 14 months. 2017 is one of the driest years with one of the earliest harvests ever, but surprisingly enough, the wines feel lighter, fresh and aromatic, expressive and open and do not show any heat. Furthermore, it feels like a fresher year in the sense that the wine integrates the oak quite well. The change here, as Marcos Eguren explained, has been in the toast of the barrels, something they started in 2015; they have lighter toasts, from a long and slow toasting of the oak, and the barrel respects the fruit a lot more. Fine-tuning continues...

    James Suckling 93/100

93/100 Punkte James Suckling July 2019
This has a deep and dark center palate of ripe yet fresh fruit and lots of spices and smoked meat. Medium to full body. Polished and chewy tannins. Yet focused and vivid. Needs two or three years of bottle age. But all there. Try after 2021.

This Amarone sees the same blend of grapes you get in the Podere Cariano, but the 2013 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Podere le Marognole is a bigger and more opulent wine. The sweetness is more evident in this expression (with 7.5 grams of residual sugar and 15% alcohol). You get robust dark fruit, prune and raisin with tar, smoke and black olive. This wine is aged in new oak barrique for 36 months, and you taste that extra spice and toasted intensity as a result. The wine's fiber and texture show big density and thick concentration. This medium-cool vintage saw 3,228 bottles produced.

Moderately saturated ruby-red; this is darker than Tedeschi's 2013 Amarone. Floral and herbal nuances complement spicy dark plum and blueberry flavors. Offers lovely balance and focus on the long, very lively finish. A blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and small amounts of local grapes such as Rossignola, Oseleta and others.

This wine is made with fruit from outside the Classico zone, from hillside vines planted in well-drained marl soils, with 180-degree exposures from southwest to southeast. The wine's name Marne 180 plays up both of those site-specific attributes. A new wine from Tedeschi, the 2015 Amarone della Valpolicella Marne 180 is slightly more approachable when stacked against the estate's Amarone Capitel Monte Olmi. Offering bright primary fruit with good complexity in the form of spice, tobacco and dried herbs, you could serve the Marne 180 at a holiday party with a platter of French cheeses. The wine is aged in large Slavonian oak casks for 30 months. Some 120,000 bottles were made.

Saturated ruby-red. Slightly high-toned aromas of blackberry, mocha, and licorice, lifted by a violet topnote. Then bright and easygoing, offering fresh flavors of dark cherry and mocha. This broad precise Amarone possesses very good energy, freshness and lift which the Molinara, even at only 5% of the total blend, no doubt contributes to. Finishes long, vibrant and ripely tannic, with a note of coffee. Made with a blend of Corvina, Corvinone (70%), Rondinella (20%), Croatina (5%) and Molinara (5%) from vineyards in Negrar, Sant'Ambrogio and San Pietro in Cariano, though the technical sheets say there's 10% Croatina in this blend, I was told that there is in fact a lot less. The wine is aged for thirty months in large oak barrels.

Silky, coolish and very elegant on the palate, this is a straight, tight, vibrantly fresh and spicy but very delicate red with a dense and tensioned finish and remarkable length. The 2017 Barbera d'Alba is a child of a hot vintage, and there's no missing its correspondingly sweet and dark fruit flavors. This vintage actually makes for an especially vibrant expression of Barbera, with solid notes of prune and spice. The fruit comes from parcels between Monforte d'Alba and Novello, from higher elevations where there is more wind and coolness. There is a pretty sweetness here and a nice balance and freshness considering the heat. You might pair this one with a beef-and-beet borscht topped with sour cream and dill.

    vinous 92/100

    92/100 Punkte Vinous March 2020
Ripeness is pushed to the edge in the 2017 Barbera d'Alba, a wine that very much shows the flamboyance of the year. Super-ripe red cherry, red plum, exotic flowers and sweet spice all race out of the glass in a hedonistic, full-throttle wine loaded with personality. There is zero subtlety here, but the wine is undoubtedly very pretty.

    Parker 91/100

91/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 2017
Here is a very popular expression from Cascina Adelaide. The 2013 Barolo 4 Vigne opens to a lean and streamlined appearance with garnet and dark copper highlights. There are sweet fragrances of wild flower, rose hip and dried lavender that emerge first from the bouquet and define the wine's graceful and delicate personality. The mouthfeel is streamlined and fine, and those tannins are tucked in at the back. Although it shows a good amount of natural structure, it leaves a very polished and silky impression nonetheless. If you are looking for an approachable and easy-drinking Barolo, this is a great choice. This Barolo is pretty much ready to drink now.

Plenty of sweet berry and cherry flavors mark this supple, juicy Barolo, accented by mineral and tobacco notes. Has grip, persisting on the licorice-, leather- and tobacco-tinged aftertaste. Best from 2022 through 2038.

Bright and juicy, this Barolo matches red berry and leafy underbrush flavors to a lightweight yet steely frame. There are flashes of green tea and iron as this rolls on through the lingering finish. Best from 2022 through 2040.
