There#s a surprisingly herbal note to this, reminiscent of peppercorns and bell pepper, but that only adds to the impression of dark cherries, dark plums and elderberry compote. Hints of vanilla and cloves. Round and very mouth-filling on the palate with a plethora of menthol, asphalt and tar, coating every extremity of the mouth. The finish has an ever-so-slight, sweet impression, but there#s firmness aplenty. Drink from 2023.

Saturated ruby-red. Slightly high-toned aromas of blackberry, mocha, and licorice, lifted by a violet topnote. Then bright and easygoing, offering fresh flavors of dark cherry and mocha. This broad precise Amarone possesses very good energy, freshness and lift which the Molinara, even at only 5% of the total blend, no doubt contributes to. Finishes long, vibrant and ripely tannic, with a note of coffee. Made with a blend of Corvina, Corvinone (70%), Rondinella (20%), Croatina (5%) and Molinara (5%) from vineyards in Negrar, Sant'Ambrogio and San Pietro in Cariano, though the technical sheets say there's 10% Croatina in this blend, I was told that there is in fact a lot less. The wine is aged for thirty months in large oak barrels.

A finely balanced red, medium- to full-bodied and fresh, with sculpted tannins structuring the crushed mulberry, wild herb, smoky mineral and spice box flavors. Chewy finish. Drink now through 2027.

A graceful red that carries its medium to full body well, offering fine-grained tannins layered with a subtle streak of smoky mineral and pleasing flavors of ripe black raspberry and sweet brown bread. Hints of dried lavender, orange zest and spice box linger on the chewy finish. Drink now through 2028.

Bottled with a moderate 12.8% alcohol, the 2016 Rosso del Ticino Riserva Arcotondo has impressively intense yet pure, elegant and refreshing bouquet of wild cherries, blackthorns and coolish vegetal notes. The wine is concentrated but lush and elegant on the palate, with remarkable finesse and freshness. This is a charming and fleshy blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc that will benefit from further bottle aging, but it is already excellent and has remarkable vitality. Tasted in October 2019.

Due to spring frost, there is 50% less quantity compared to a normal year of Tom Litwan's 2016 Oberflachs Auf der Mauer, a beautifully expressive Pinot Noir with a pure, very fine yet intense cherry bouquet with great freshness and spicy flavors. Silky, coolish and very elegant on the palate, this is a straight, tight, vibrantly fresh and spicy but very delicate red with a dense and tensioned finish and remarkable length. Very good concentration and structure here. Tasted in Zurich, November 2018.

The 2016 Barbera d'Alba is all class. Sumptuous and beautifully layered, the 2016 is a real joy to taste, even at this early stage. Super-ripe dark cherry, plum, licorice, tobacco and sweet spice infuse a sumptuous, lush Barbera that hits all the right notes. This is a stellar showing from the Sandrone family.

A polished, plush, ripe style of Barbera, with spicy overtones to the core of plum and blackberry fruit. Firm and balanced, though this could use a few months to integrate more fully. Fine length. Drink now through 2023.

    Parker 91/100

The 2017 Barbera d'Alba is a child of a hot vintage, and there's no missing its correspondingly sweet and dark fruit flavors. This vintage actually makes for an especially vibrant expression of Barbera, with solid notes of prune and spice. The fruit comes from parcels between Monforte d'Alba and Novello, from higher elevations where there is more wind and coolness. There is a pretty sweetness here and a nice balance and freshness considering the heat. You might pair this one with a beef-and-beet borscht topped with sour cream and dill.

    92/100 Punkte Vinous March 2020
Ripeness is pushed to the edge in the 2017 Barbera d'Alba, a wine that very much shows the flamboyance of the year. Super-ripe red cherry, red plum, exotic flowers and sweet spice all race out of the glass in a hedonistic, full-throttle wine loaded with personality. There is zero subtlety here, but the wine is undoubtedly very pretty.

Here is a very popular expression from Cascina Adelaide. The 2013 Barolo 4 Vigne opens to a lean and streamlined appearance with garnet and dark copper highlights. There are sweet fragrances of wild flower, rose hip and dried lavender that emerge first from the bouquet and define the wine's graceful and delicate personality. The mouthfeel is streamlined and fine, and those tannins are tucked in at the back. Although it shows a good amount of natural structure, it leaves a very polished and silky impression nonetheless. If you are looking for an approachable and easy-drinking Barolo, this is a great choice. This Barolo is pretty much ready to drink now.
