91/100 Punkte Vinous August 2019 Very pale bright straw yellow. The nose is two-faceted, starting with perfumed white flowers. With aeration the wine veers towards ripe yellow apple and lime. Enters juicy and suave, with luscious but lifted pomaceous orchard and white stone fruit flavors nicely focused by noteworthy salinity. Finishes long and tactile but with plenty of freshness. Another very successful vintage for this blend of Grillo and Inzolia.
92/100 Punkte Robert Parker Oct 2016 The only white produced at Vall Llach, the 2014 Aigua de Llum, is mainly Viognier complemented with other local grapes, some 15% Garnacha Blanca and 5% made up of Picapoll, Macabeo, Moscatel and Escanyavella. This is not a shy white, as it packs 15.5% alcohol, with low-ish acidity and a round and lush mouthfeel. Half of the Viognier fermented in new 300-liter French oak barrels and the rest in stainless steel, like the other varieties, which were later transferred to new 225-liter barriques where the wines aged for some four months. This is often my favorite wine from the winery, as it's the more drinkable one. Only 986 bottles were filled in June 2015.
89/100 Punkte Robert Parker December 2018 The 2017 Sicilia Anthìlia is mostly Catarratto with some indigenous and international varieties mixed into the blend. This is a very bright and luminous wine that appears to have Sicilian sunbeams locked within. For easy-drinking occasions on the summer porch, backyard or rooftop terrazza, this is your wine. The finish is zesty and clean. One sip happily invites the next.
91/100 Punkte Falstaff April 2019 Leuchtendes Strohgelb.
88+/100 Punkte Robert Parker Oct 2019 Donnafugata's 2018 Sicilia Anthìlia is a Catarratto-based blend with a very pretty and delicate aromatic profile that incorporates elements of white flower, honey, pear and passion fruit. This is a zesty and streamlined white wine (that sees no oak) to drink on easy occasions with light finger foods or bite-sized sushi rolls.
91/100 Punkte Vinous August 2019 Luminous straw yellow. Fresh, crisp aromas and flavors of white peach, lime and aromatic herbs. Juicy and fresh, with lovely sugar acid balance and sneaky concentration and length. Outstanding Anthìlia that seems to have more stuffing than usual while retaining its trademark easy drinking, uncomplicated style.
94/100 Punkte Robert Parker, May 2016 There is a white produced with Viura grapes that is only produced in cold vintages, which is exactly what the name of the 2013 Añadas Frías means. The grapes are sourced from a 1.5 hectare plot at 600 meters altitude of clay and limestone soils. It fermented in new 500-liter French oak barrels. The analytical data show figures more common in Chablis than in Rioja; the wine has a pH below three and there's no natural way the wine goes through malolactic. The nose showed intense iodine aromas and diesel-like notes, highly mineral, with a notable absence of fruit and oak. The palate is also soil-driven, with very chalky tannins and effervescent, citrusy acidity. It has a tremendously tasty finish, almost salty. This is one of those whites that feels like it was produced with stones rather than grapes. This should age in bottle forever. 1,476 bottles produced and filled in March 2015. This wine has only been released in 2007, 2010 and 2013, really
92/100 Robert Parker 31 Aug 2017 The 2015 Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu was matured in 20% barrel and 80% stainless steel for 18 months. It has a clean and precise bouquet that needs more coaxing than the more forward Les Fourneaux, with touches of hazelnut and smoke emerging with time. The palate is well balanced with an attacking entry, malic in the mouth and with a very saline finish. This is a straight-down-the-line classic Chablis that is perhaps more 2014 in style than 2015. This is nothing short of excellent.
90-92/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 2016 The 2015 Chablis 1er Cru Les Vaillons Vieilles Vignes comes from a parcel of 70-year-old vines adjacent to Sécher. Samuel Billaud commented he has found that this particular cuvée has become more saline and minerally in barrel. It has a very complex bouquet with scents of wet limestone, yellow plum and a touch of white peach. The palate is fresh on the entry with a touch of orange rind, steely and linear; it is strict for a Vaillons, with a precise and stony finish that lingers nicely in the mouth. This should represent an enticing Chablis once in bottle.
91-93/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 2017 The 2016 Chablis 1Er Cru Vaillons Vieilles Vignes comes from 70-year-old vines raised only in stainless steel. I like the aromatics here#this has a sense of purpose with vivid scents of orange zest and a touch of lychee. The palate is tensile right from the start thanks to that killer line of acidity. There is great depth here and the harmonious finish feels assured and elegant. Great potential and for me this is a serious step up from the Chablis Village and certainly worth the few extra dollars.
92/100 Punkte Robert Parker, Aug 2019 The 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre is also performing well, though it doesn't attain quite the heights I thought it might a year ago. A youthfully reserved bouquet of white flowers, citrus oil and honeycomb precedes a medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping palate that's nicely concentrated, concluding with a chalky finish but without the electric energy one looks for in a top vintage.
93+/100 Punkte Robert Parker, Aug 2019 The 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu confirms its strong showing last year, unwinding in the glass with aromas of peach, grapefruit and honeycomb, with some subtle musky floral tones waiting in the wings that I suspect will become more prominent with time. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, concentrated and gourmand, with racy acids and a long, saline finish. Billaud tells me that this was cropped at less than 20 hectoliters per hectare, and that shows.
92-94/100 Punkte Vinous, Aug 2018 The 2017 Chablis Mont de Milieu comes from three parcels of 35, 60 and 80-year old vines in different parts of the vineyard that crop at just 25hl/ha. It has a classic Chablis bouquet with a potent sea influence, oyster shells and cockles, and a whiff of kelp. The palate is beautifully balanced with a crisp line of acidity, very harmonious and elegant, the 20% barrel maturation just lending a little more weight to the finish. Superb.
93/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 31, 2017 The 2015 Chablis Grand Cru Bougros has a splendid bouquet with a very subtle reductive note. There is real delineation and poise here, with walnut and smoke emerging with time and struck flint emerging later. The palate is well defined with a fine bead of acidity (although the acidity level is lower than in Blanchot). Touches of blackcurrant leaf and quince dovetail into a very energetic finish that lingers for over a minute. Superb.
93/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 31, 2018 A reserved bouquet of lemon oil, dried white flowers and beeswax introduces the 2016 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir, a dense, full-bodied and concentrated wine that's quite firm and structured on the palate, showing considerable promise. It hails from two parcels at either end of this climat.
93/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 2019 Billaud's 2017 Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot was another wine cropped at very low yields, around 20 hectoliters per hectare in this case. Offering up a pretty bouquet of citrus blossom, peaches and pears that's subtly framed by a discrete touch of oak, it's full-bodied, satiny and layered, with a broad attack, a fleshy core and a precise but delicately exotic finish.
92+/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 2019 Billaud produced a mere 450 liters of the 2017 Chablis Grand Cru Bougros, a full-bodied, fleshy wine that's deep and concentrated, redolent of honeycomb, orange rind and vanilla pod. Despite its broad shoulders, it's racy and precise and concludes with a saline finish, but it won't be easy to find.
94/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 2019 Cropped at a meager 15 hectoliters per hectare, Billaud produced only two barrels of the 2017 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos. Offering up aromas of musky peach, mandarin and green apple, it's full-bodied, deep and textural, with the structure of a red wine on the palate. This is a powerful, super concentrated Les Clos, but it's also nicely balanced.
93/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 2019 The 2017 Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses offers up lovely aromas of orange blossom, oyster shells, iodine and beeswax. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, fine-boned, elegant and precise, with ripe acids and a saline finish. It's a fine rendition of this ethereal climat.
94+/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 2019 The 2017 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir is one of the highlights of the portfolio this year, wafting from the glass with aromas of aromatic citrus fruit, clear honey, oyster shell and almond paste. On the palate, it's full-bodied, concentrated and layered, with racy acids and an intense and penetrating finish. This will be well worth following for the better part of two decades.
90/100 Punkte Robert Parker, Feb 2019 Vinified in used pièces, the 2017 Malanser Chardonnay is clear, bright and fresh on the rather lean, reductive and fruity nose that reveals crystalline mineral expressions. Firm, intense and piquant on the palate, this is an intense and powerful but elegant and racy Chardonnay from the Selvenen. It did not undergo malolactic fermentation and comes along pretty racy and piquant but not as quiet as the Gantenbein Chardonnay. Fresh. Tasted November 2018.
92/100 Punkte Robert Parker, Feb 2019 The 2016 Auvernier Chardonnay is pure, intense and mineral on the nose, where ripe fruit and very fine chalk and sur lie aromas are displayed. On the palate, this is a full-bodied, remarkably fine and elegant wine with an enormously intense, complex and persistent finish. Still young and fresh but very promising. Tasted in February 2019.
95/100 Punkte Falstaff, April 2019 Funkelndes, sattes Strohgelb.
95/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 2019 The 2016 Friuli Isonzo Rive Alte Chardonnay Vie di Romans is exotic and tangy, just slightly ripe and absolutely beautiful. The notes of exotic fruit and papaya are almost incomparable in definition, with some sweet cinnamon mingling in there as well. The mouthfeel is silky and long, with an esoteric or abstract quality that is hard to put into words but remains mysterious and attractive nonetheless. Enjoy this barrique-aged Chardonnay with someone who can appreciate this level of craftsmanship.
