92/100 Punkte Vinous Jan 2018 The 2015 Chianti Classico Forcole is terrific. Pliant, generous and inviting, it captures all the natural intensity of the year. Soft contours and silky tannins add to the wine's considerable near- and medium-term appeal, while the flavor profile shows the darker side of Sangiovese. This is a gorgeous Chianti Classico from Cavalli.
92/100 Punkte James Suckling October 2017 A linear and fresh red with berry, cherry and chocolate flavors. Medium body, fine tannins and a balanced brightness and frutiness. All in finesse and clarity. Drink now.
90/100 Punkte Vinous September 2017 Bright straw. Lemon and green papaya on the perfumed nose. Then fresh and saline, with lemony bite to the fresh orchard fruit flavors. Finishes long and juicy. Made with Nerello Mascalese vinified as a white wine (in other words, without any skin contact). (12.5% alcohol).
91/100 Punkte Vinous Jan 2018 The 2015 Le Redini, Cavalli's Merlot/Alicante blend, is decidedly racy and exotic in this vintage. Black cherry, chocolate, licorice and menthol effortlessly fill out the 2015's supple frame. Readers should expect a bold, juicy wine built on super-ripe fruit.
93/100 Punkte Robert Parker December 2018 Representing the classic Etna blend of 80% Nerello Mascalese and 20% Nerello Cappuccio, the 2014 Etna Rosso Carusu strikes impressive balance between elegance and power. It achieves careful unity with a bouquet that starts off with tiny footsteps but concludes with resounding strides. Wild berry and black currant segue to spice, licorice and campfire ash. The intensity of those aromas grows with each sip, and the wine builds its muscle power in the mouth with firm tannins and lingering volcanic notes. Some 30,000 bottles were made.
92/100 Punkte Robert Parker April 2018 Grapes from younger vines are used for the 2016 Les Crestes, which is also released earlier. It's a blend of Garnacha with 20% Cariñena and 10% Syrah matured in second use French oak barrels for eight months. 2016 was a dry growing season saved by a cooler September with some rain, which resulted in a relaxed and long harvest of grapes with good ripeness and acidity. It's young, tender and aromatic, a gentle Priorat with a juicy palate and a fresh personality. Really attractive and pleasant.
92/100 Punkte Robert Parker, Sep 2015 I tasted the 2010 Etna Rosso Cirneco (100% Nerello Mascalese) last year and had the chance to revisit the wine again. Since then, not much has changed although my impression is that it has started to flesh out nicely. It shows more spice coloring of cinnamon and clove this year. This is an austere and stubborn wine that plays its cards close to its chest. It reveals crushed stone, dark fruit and grilled herb with slow precision. These qualities bode well for its future evolution. So does the tannic management. The wine is stern, firm and structured. Fruit comes from 60-year-old pre-phylloxera vines that have been pruned down to just two clusters per vine.
93/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 2017 This is Terrazze dell'Etna's top-shelf wine. A pure expression of Nerello Mascalese, the 2011 Etna Rosso Cirneco represents a selection of the estate's oldest vines. This has made for an elegant and softly contoured wine with delicate aromatic layering and evident complexity. You get wild berry, pressed flowers, crushed mineral, licorice and garden herb. The finish shows dry tannins and the kind of lingering sophistication you only get with pre-phylloxera vines. Each plant is rigorously pruned to allow for only two clusters per vine.
92/100 Punkte Robert Parker, August 2018 The 2010 Julian Reynolds Grande Reserva is mostly Alicante Bouschet, with 20% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. It was aged for varying lengths of time in new French oak (the Alicante the longest, for 24 months; then down to 12 months for the Syrah). It comes in at 14.5% alcohol. This is the spot in the lineup that the winery starts to deliver some sophistication and intrigue. This is beautifully structured, still showing power at its age (even after aeration). It is always tightly wound, never sloppy. Then, it adds pleasingly mature fruit. It is nuanced with beef, strawberries and other red fruits. It is rather complex as it lingers beautifully on the finish. It seems to have at least a decade more of life in it#maybe more.
93/100 Punkte Robert Parker December 2016 The 2013 Cavalli is a terrific expression from a crisp and cooler vintage. The wine is composed of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Petit Verdot and 15% Cabernet Franc, aged in oak for 18 months and in bottle for an additional 18 months. I should underline that the Petit Verdot percentage plays a much bigger role in this vintage and I'm told this will also be the case in the future. The bouquet here reveals dark tones of spice and black fruit, and the wine offers the thick color saturation and fruity concentration to match. The finish is layered, rich and opulent.
94/100 Punkte James Suckling July 2016 Dark blueberry and shiitake mushroom turn to mineral and blue fruits. Full body, juicy and rich. Soft and round. Gorgeous. Rich style but remains so velvety. Available in January 2017. Better in 2019.
