93/100 Punkte James Suckling, September 2018 Dark plums, dried herbs, ink, iodine, elderberries and the faintest touch of resin. Full body, ripe yet structured tannins and a chewy finish. Drink in 2020.
93/100 Punkte James Suckling, September 2018 This is tight and linear one with firm and silky tannins, showing focus and beauty. Medium- to full-bodied, muscular and energetic. A blend of sangiovese, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot and alicante. Drink or hold.
92/100 Punkte James Suckling, September 2018 The flowers and blue fruits are dominating in this red. Yet, there#s brightness too. Medium-bodied, firm and silky. Tight and poised. Needs a year to open and show its reality. Drink in 2019.
92/100 Punkte Wine Spectator May 31, 2018 This is firmly structured and balanced. Floral on the nose, with apple, spice and saffron flavors that are mouthfilling and pure. White pepper and sea salt accents fill the long, smoky finish. Drink now through 2025.
94/100 Punkte Wine Spectator, Mar 31. 2019 A rich, smoky Grüner, luscious and creamy up front, but with underlying acidity that pierces its way through, revealing persimmon, vanilla and cardamom notes. Features a really lovely texture, almost velvety, coating the palate, but still remains fresh. Complex and long. Best from 2020 through 2030.
94/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 2019 Here's another winning edition of this great wine. The 2015 Vespa Bianco has that familiar creamy texture and richness but a more evolved aromatic profile. What's special about this vintage is the dimension it now shows along with some very tonic fruit at the back. It is spicy and warm, with flashes of bright tangerine, and offers so much intensity and textural purity. This beautiful wine calls for a nice grilled ocean fish, such as orata or (more readily available in North America) a black sea bass.
92+/100 Punkte Vinous May 2018 Vivid straw yellow. Slightly reticent nose at first, then gains depth and complexity with aeration offering aromas of yellow apple, pear and nectarine complicated by botanical herbs and minerals. Then similar flavors to the aromas nicely extended by saline freshness on the tactile back end which is enlivened by a hint of peppery ginger. A Vespa Bianco that is very promising but needs to be cellared; put this away for another three years at least.
92-93/100 Punkte Robert Parker Jun 2016 The 2015 Riesling Smaragd Dürnsteiner Höhereck offers a clear and intense bouquet of ripe fruits and some leafy aromas. Full-bodied, fresh and aromatic on the palate this is a clear, pure and elegant, fruit-intense and very salty Riesling with stony flavors and a long and tension-filled finish. Very good expression and mineral structure here.
94/100 Punkte Vinous Feb 2017 A penetratingly pungent, invigoratingly zesty nose features fresh lime, white currant, white peach and orange peel, along with striking anticipations of the stone, iodine, and mineral salts that go on to give intriguing complexity to this beauty#s sleek, generously fruity, palpably extract-rich palate and vibrant, superbly sustained, sharply-focused finish.
91+/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 31, 2017 From sandy and stony gneiss soils of the cru that is located between the Kellerberg and the Loibenberg, the 2016 Ried Höhereck Riesling Smaragd has a clear and open bouquet of white fleshed fruits intermixed with some iron-flavored stony aromas. Full-bodied, round and very elegant, the wine is provided with delicate acidity as well as finessed and salty minerality that carries this 2016 into a long and fresh finish. This is a pure and tensioned, remarkably good and refreshing Riesling from this small 2.74-hectare cru. Bottled in late June 2017, tasted a week later in July.
93/100 Punkte Robert Parker December 2018 From steep, southeast-facing terraces with weathered gneiss soils, the 2017 Ried Höhereck Riesling Smaragd is concentrated, fresh and piquant on the nose, displaying ripe white fruit aromas but also some greenish fruits. Dense and piquant on the palate, this elegant, tightly woven Riesling has remarkable phenolic grip, freshness and a stimulating astringency on the salty finish. Stunningly fresh given this steep and warm terraced vineyard. Tasted in Unterloiben, Wachau, September 2018.
95/100 Punkte James Suckling, October 2018 The vibrant floral and white-peach nose is very attractive and, on the palate, this stunning dry riesling is simultaneously concentrated and subtle. The finish is very long and racy. Drink or hold.
94/100 Punkte Robert Parker, August 2019 Bottled in July 2016 and released in September 2018, the 2015 Plus appears to be a bit more elegant compared to the more evolved 2013 that I tasted at the same time. It is not as sweet either. The bouquet offers pineapple, candied fruit and honey, but this vintage clearly has more room to grow and evolve. It's all primary fruit, but it is also more elegant as a result. Put this one away for a few years, and I bet it will become a very special Friulano.
95/100 Punkte James Suckling November 2018 The depth of stone-fruit and exotic-fruit aromas on the nose almost knocks you back in your seat. Rich, ripe and succulent, but with spot-on balance. Then the very long, silky finish takes your breath away. Drink or hold.
93/100 Punkte Robert Parker, May 2019 Tenuta le Colonne is an estate I have never visited, but I feel like I have because I spent a good amount of time over by their neighbors during my last trip to Bolgheri. This property and Tenuta Argentiera look onto each other and are absolutely blessed by some of the most magnificent positioning possible along the Tuscan Coast. The vineyard that produces the 2015 Bolgheri Superiore spans from the seashore at five meters above sea level to 150 meters. This is a darkly concentrated wine with rich aromas of blackberry, ripe current, spice and tobacco. This is a structured, firm wine that sits squarely on the palate.
95/100 Punkte James Suckling, September 2018 The aromas of blueberries and black licorice are impressive with aniseed undertones. Tar, too. Full-bodied, dense and powerful with a chewy tannin structure and a long, flavorful finish. Very structured. A new wine from the region to seek out. Try it in 2020.
93/100 Punkte Robert Parker October 2017 The 2014 Ilatraia is a terrific wine that represents a blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Petit Verdot and 20% Cabernet Franc. This is a darkly saturated and rich Tuscan blend that delivers so much pleasure on all levels. There is softness, intensity, complexity and length. This is a stunning wine with excellent engineering and execution. This is definitely a wine I will remember.
93/100 Punkte Wine Spectator Sep 30, 2017 A lush, concentrated style, this red boasts plum, cassis, tobacco and spice flavors. Fresh and pure, with a dose of serious oak. Mouthcoating tannins and spice notes line the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2019 through 2028.
93/100 Punkte James Suckling Aug 28, 2017 This is a very well done red from the vintage with blackberry, dark currant and hints of rose petal aromas and flavors. Medium to full body, very fine texture and a pretty finish. Very fine for the vintage. Drink or hold.
95/100 Punkte Robert Parker Oct 31, 2018 The 2015 Ilatraia is a drop-dead gorgeous blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Petit Verdot and 20% Cabernet Franc with all fruit coming from Brancaia's Maremma vineyards along the Tuscan coast. This warm vintage has shaped an exuberant and intense red wine that hits the palate with lavish richness. The complex bouquet is composed of dark fruit elements that are contrasted seamlessly against spice, sweet tobacco and campfire ash. Yet the mouthfeel is never too heavy or overextracted. There's a lot to enjoy here.
96/100 Punkte James Suckling October 2017 Aromas of black licorice and blackberry. Blueberry, too. This is so complex. Full body, extremely silky and polished with lovely tannins. Deep and long. It seems powerful and rich yet ends so balanced and refined. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, petit verdot and cabernet franc.
