90/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 31, 2017 The 2016 Loibner Grüner Veltliner Ried Kreutles Federspiel has the typical clear, ripe and elegant fruit aromas you can expect from wines with this iconic label. The 2016 Kreutles is bright, fresh and spicy on the nose but also seductive. A classic! Medium-bodied, pure and fresh on the palate, with juicy fruit and the typical bitter lemon, lime and green apple flavors on the finish, this is a very elegant and refreshing picture book Grüner Veltliner with lingering salinity. Straight, pure, fresh, highly digestible as well as reliable year after year. One of the finest Federspiel bottlings I have tasted from the 2016 vintage. 12% alcohol.
92/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 31, 2017 Knoll's 2016 Loibner Riesling Ried Loibenberg Federspiel opens with a super clear and aromatic bouquet with bright ripe stone fruit and also flinty aromas. Very distinctive. Medium-bodied, intense and mineral but rather light and very elegant on the palate, this is a well-structured, pure and salty Loibenberg that has class and terroir expression#as a Federspiel. Fine tannins, lean, straight, pure and clear: a classic in best form.
92/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 31, 2017 From one of the warmest sites in the Wachau, Martin Michelbach's intensely yellow colored 2016 Ried Loibenberg Grüner Veltliner Smaragd intermixes spicy flint with ripe, precise fruit aromas and lemon notes. Very elegant, pure and salty on the palate, this is a full-bodied, piquant and well-structured Loibenberg. Still very young but balanced, with vivacious acidity and good tannins, this 2016 should have a great aging potential.
92+/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 31, 2017 The 2016 Ried Kellerberg Riesling Smaragd is very deep, complex and extremely flinty with ripe fruit and crushed stone aromas. This Kellerberg takes you into a quarry and is reminiscent of tons of flint stones! The stone fruit flavors are ripe and concentrated but stay in the background. On the palate this is a silky, full-bodied, pure and elegant Riesling with great power, complexity and serious, very persistent structure with lingering fruit. This is a big, monstrous Kellerberg that needs years to gain finesse. But yes, it is very promising.
91+/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 31, 2017 The 2016 Ried Loibenberg Grüner Veltliner Smaragd has a deep, clear and flinty flavored bouquet of ripe, concentrated and very well defined white and yellow-fleshed fruits. On the palate, this is a full-bodied, rich, round and charming but also refined, elegant and tightly woven Grüner Veltliner with power, good tannins and mineral grip. It is a generous and rather smooth Veltliner compared to the fresh and finessed Steinertal or the firmly structured Liebenberg. Its finish is long, intense and powerful and reveals tropical fruit aromas. Tasted in July 2017, one week after the bottling.
92+/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 31, 2017 Alzinger's 2016 Ried Steinertal Riesling Smaragd is concentrated but clear, fresh and mineral on the nose where white fruit and flinty flavors are displayed. Round and elegant on the palate, this is a charming and well-balanced Riesling with a juicy, mouth-filling texture and refined mineral structure. The 2016 has very good length and purity, doesn't lack tension, grip or salinity and is really stimulating, even though it is still one or two years too young. Tasted in July 2017, one week after the bottling.
92-93/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 31, 2017 The 2016 Ried Steinertal Grüner Veltliner Smaragd is from the coolest Grüner Veltliner single vineyard of the Pichler family, with sandy gneiss and granite soils. The 2016 opens with a clear and fresh but also intense fruit aroma that is still a bit discreet on the nose. The attack on the palate is really fresh and piquant due to remarkable acidity. The wine is pure and mineral, shows a good phenolic grip and reveals white fruit aromas like yellow-skinned apples. The finish is clear, fresh and grippy and shows some attractive crispy fruit flavors. This is a lean, elegant, well balanced, medium to full-bodied Grüner Veltliner with less than 13% alcohol. Tasted as a sample in early July 2017. Scheduled for bottling in late July 2017.
93-94/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 31, 2017 The 2016 Ried Loibenberg Grüner Veltliner Smaragd is from the warmest vineyard of the family. Coming from a steep, terraced, very skeletal cru with iron-rich gneiss soils, the 2016 opens with a super clear, cool, fresh and well-defined nose that comes along with herbal and flinty notes but still indicates ripe and concentrated fruit from a warm vineyard. Full-bodied, round and intense, with perfectly ripe and warm fruit, this is a pure, piquant and crisp Grüner Veltliner with very good grip and mineral freshness. The finish is quite lush, the mineral structure, salinity and freshness stimulating. Lucas Pichler says that, in warmer vintages, he picks the vineyard ten days earlier than his father did and without botrytis to keep the freshness and elegance. His 2016 is great proof of that, although it was not a warm vintage. Tasted as a sample in early July, three weeks before the bottling.
92-93/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 31, 2017 The 2016 Ried Steinertal Riesling Smaragd offers a fresh and concentrated white peach fruit aroma in a coolish and stony milieu with discreet citrus flavors. From weathered gneiss and granite soils, this is a full-bodied and concentrated Riesling with searing acidity but also remarkable concentration that gives this wine a very long and aromatic finish. It is lean, straight and mineral, really piquant, and reveals a salty, well structured finish. Very promising! Tasted as a sample in July 2017.
92/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 31, 2017 Picked in Spitz between November 5 and 28, the 2016 Ried Honivogl Grüner Veltliner Smaragd opens with clear, deep, intense and ripe fruit intertwined with very fine mineral aromas of crushed gneiss and iron. Full-bodied, intense and very elegant on the palate, this is a rich but also pure and salty-mineral Veltliner with remarkable finesse and elegance and a complex finish that displays a lot of tropical aromas like bananas and super ripe stone fruits. Although it drinks perfectly (though a bit sweet) today, it will benefit from further bottle aging. Tasted July 2017.
