The first white from Mas Doix, the 2018 Murmuri is a blend of Garnacha Blanca from 20- to 25-year-old vines with some 3% Macabeo and perhaps 2% other white varieties that fermented in stainless steel and matured with the lees for three months. It' produced in a clean and fresh way, completely unoaked to preserve the white fruit and fennel aromas. It has a light and vibrant palate with superb acidity and minerality. It should develop nicely in bottle. A very good debut. 2,700 bottles produced.

The just-bottled red 2018 Bozeto de Exopto is a superb young and fruit-driven blend of 50% Tempranillo and 40% Garnacha with a 10% pinch of Graciano to add freshness. The destemmed but uncrushed grapes fermented in stainless steel, concrete and oak containers with indigenous yeasts and matured for six months, the Garnacha in concrete, the Tempranillo in oak vats and a blend of Tempranillo and Graciano in well-seasoned barriques. 2018 was clearly a cool, Atlantic vintage (as opposed to Mediterranean vintages), and the grapes ripened slowly; some of the grapes (the Garnacha) were harvested later than ever. This juicy and fruit-driven young red is aromatic and more fluid, fresher and approachable. The palate is fresh and light, a wine to enjoy without moderation! 75,000 bottles produced make this 75% of the production of the winery. It was bottled in April 2019.

The 2018 Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu is also performing very well, unwinding in the glass with scents of citrus oil, spring blossom, crisp green orchard fruit and grapefruit. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, it's nicely concentrated, with a tightly wound core, racy acids and a long, beautifully defined finish. This has turned out beautifully.

The 2018 Chablis Mont de Milieu 1er Cru is one of the stand outs in this range. Ample and creamy, the 2018 is so wonderfully inviting, even in the early going. All the elements just come together effortlessly. Orchard fruit, citrus confit, spice, wild flowers and a touch of new oak all grace this super-expressive Chablis. The 2018 was done 80% in tank and 20% in a 450-liter oak barrel.

The 2018 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre offers up aromas of crisp orchard fruit, honeycomb, pear and dried white flowers, followed by a medium to full-bodied, bright and incisive palate with a delicately textural attack and a tightly wound core. Still youthfully reserved, this vibrant wine will reward a little bottle age.

    93/100 Punkte Vinous, Juli 2020
The 2018 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru comes from a hectare of 45-year-old vines and was vinified in stainless steel vats and 450-liter barrels before aging for 18 months on the lees. It has a pretty nose of orange blossom, white peach and Japanese yuzu scents that are beautifully defined. The palate is very well balanced, with Granny Smith apples and pear on the entry, a vibrant thread of acidity, and quite a linear, taut finish that is perhaps more 2017 in style. Overall, this is a superb Montée de Tonnerre for those who like "classic" Chablis.

Pretty aromas of crisp green orchard fruit, dried white flowers, oyster shell and orange introduce the 2018 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons Vieilles Vignes, a satiny, medium to full-bodied wine that's bright and incisive, with racy acids and a chalky finish.

    91/100 Punkte Vinous, Juli 2020
The 2018 Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru has a pale silvery hue. The bouquet is conservative for this particular vineyard, conveying subtle grass clipping and fresh pear tones, perhaps just missing the pizzazz of Billaud#s other cuvées this vintage. The palate is well balanced with a pretty opening: lemon confit, a dab of lemongrass and an underlying salinity that enlivens the finish. A thoroughly enjoyable and well-crafted Vaillons that I suspect will offer most in its youth.

Less overtly muscular than the super-concentrated 2017, the 2018 reflects a vintage spared by frost.

The 2018 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru is one of the best expressions of this noble vineyard in this vintage. Limpid argent in hue, it has a taut, fresh, flinty bouquet that you might misconstrue as coming from a cooler growing season, a testament to Billaud#s winemaking skill. The palate is likewise underpinned by a fine line of acidity that keeps this Les Clos poised, refreshing and revivifyingly saline. There is just a light sour lemon note mixed with a tang of ginger on the finish, completing a very fine Les Clos that comes highly recommended.

The 2018 Chablis Les Preuses Grand Cru, which comes from 60-year-old vines and spends 18 months on the fine lees, has a vibrant, energetic nose, presenting flint and smoke at first, then subtle dried white flowers soon after, but maintaining a sense of classicism at all times. The palate is very well balanced with peach and nectarine notes on the entry, razor-sharp acidity effortlessly counterbalancing the richness of this Les Preuses. It keeps its foot on the accelerator right to the end. An outstanding Les Preuses from Samuel Billaud.

Lush but piquant and fresh on the palate, with good phenolic grip and nice spicy flavors, this is an elegant and dense Chardonnay that reflects the vitality and tension of the terroir but also the ambition to handcraft a Burgundy, whereas Walter Glatzer is producing an excellent and very convincing Sauvignon Blanc from this same vineyard. Light vivid orange. Ripe red berry and citrus fruit aromas are complicated by a subtle floral note and a hint of dusty minerals. Fleshy, spice-tinged raspberry and bitter cherry flavors open up slowly and turn sweeter with air. Distinctly concentrated but lively as well, closing with firm grip and repeating cherry and floral notes. Nothing easygoing here (it does check in at 14.5% alcohol, by the way), despite its relatively humble appellation.

It was produced with fruit from vines averaging 15 years of age, and it fermented in oak at controlled temperature. It matured in French 2 ,500-liter oak foudres with lees for eight months. It's expressive and aromatic, with some grape-pulp aromas, somehow floral and with a spicy touch. It's varietal and clean, with integrated oak, a medium-bodied palate and a refreshing finish, serious and with a mineral twist.
