94/100 Punkte Vinous April 2020 The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Vecchie Vigne presents an extroverted mix of both red and blue berry fruits, complemented by notes of sweet spice, milk chocolate and plum. On the palate, silky textures play host to ripe red and black fruits, laced with savory herbs, hints of olive, and saline-minerals. The finish is long and structured, resonating on zesty acids and spice, as notes of dried cherry and dark inner florals slowly fade. To be honest, I didn#t expect such a brilliant and balanced showing on the palate, and I believe that once the Vecchie Vigne sheds some of its sweet fruit on the nose, it will show beautifully from start to finish.
100/100 Punkte James Suckling November 2019 This is very intense on the nose with blue fruit, cool stones, brambleberries and blackberries. Wet earth, too. Full-bodied and extremely dense and powerful with a super center palate of fruit and ripe yet compact tannins. Lightly chewy and expressive. Superb transparency and integration. Goes on for minutes. One of the best Brunellos I have tasted in my career. Try after 2021, but already amazing.
95/100 Punkte Robert Parker Nov 2017 Loimer's dry Riesling 2016 Ried Steinmassl "Erste Lage" offers a deep, mineral and complex bouquet of ripe peaches. Full-bodied, round and intense on the palate, this is a dense, highly elegant, complex, finessed and stimulating Riesling with firm but fine tannin structure and a piercing mineral character. The 2016 is probably the finest Riesling I have tasted from this vineyard and this domain so far. If you have the chance, keep it for 10 years before you appreciate all its talents! It's Riesling, not always easy in its youth, but the best is yet to come! Tasted in September 2017.
97/100 Punkte James Suckling, October 2018 Very pristine and youthful with a stunning combination of concentration and grace on the palate. This is one of the highlights of the vintage for Austria's signature grape. Very long, cool finish with a slew of herbs and minerals. From biodynamically grown grapes. Respekt certified. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
95/100 Punkte Falstaff Weinguide 2016/17 Mittleres Gelb, Silberreflexe.
94/100 Punkte Robert Parker April 2016 Selected in the best plot of the Zieregg and only in great vintages, the 2012 Sauvignon Blanc Zieregg Vinothek Reserve displays a very clear and pure bouquet with lemon flavors. This fascinating nose seems to be delivered on a perfumed stone plate. Pure perfume, no eau de toilette, of course. The palate is the extension of the nose, although the finish reveals a sweetish and charming juiciness that takes away a bit of the purity - which I like too much, but many readers might find too intellectual or not sensual enough. Ripe and cooked/baked white fruits (apples) intertwine with mineral flavors on the highly elegant palate, which finishes with verve, salt, and ripe and concentrated fruit flavors. This is doubtlessly great wine and there is no Sauvignon I know on planet wine that is comparable to this Zieregg. And that's a probably the greatest compliment I can give to this extraordinary wine.
93/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 2018 The exceptional NV Adorado is a product of the past, as it's a wine that is said not to have been touched since 1967. It's a blend of the three classical grapes from Rueda#Verdejo, Palomino and Viura. There is more volatility, more intensity and pungency here, but also more finesse and depth and even more elegance. It matured in a solera system for a very long time, and initially, it must have been aged under flor yeasts. It's 16% alcohol but was originally fortified to 17%, and it's very dry and tasty. There are some 2,000 bottles of this, apparently only magnums. Wines like this are almost eternal.
93/100 Punkte James Suckling July 2019 A solera that delivers such complex and richly nutty, leathery aromas leading to a dry, minerally palate that has a very rich, layered and crisp, salty build to the finish. Drink now.
89+/100 Punkte Robert Parker September 2017 The 2015 Oberflachs Auf der Mauer has a deep, pure, fine, licorice and dark cherry bouquet with oaky/toasty aromas. On the palate this is a charming, rich, pretty juicy and intense but rather broad and saturating Pinot Noir from a very steep, terraced, warm and dry vineyard. This is pretty rich and powerful but a less exciting Pinot Noir compared to the Rüeget.
94/100 Punkte Robert Parker, Feb 2019 The 2016 Thalheim Chalofe starts reductive on the bright, cherry-scented nose. Meaty and fruity on the silky-elegant textured palate and provided with fine but tightly woven tannins, this is a concentrated and tensioned Pinot with purity, transparency and freshness. Very long and tight on the finish, this is still a baby that will need a couple of years to open up. Tasted in Zurich, November 2018.
93/100 Punkte Robert Parker, Feb 2020 From 11- to 50-year-old vines on chalky marl soils and aged in used barriques for one year, the 2017 Thalheim Chalofe is clear, deep, fresh and spicy on the wild and reductive nose with its bright cherry aromas. Lush and intense on the silky-textured palate, this is an elegant, balanced, very charming yet refreshing and tightly woven Pinot with grip and tension. It has very good length and purity. Slightly filtered. Tasted in October 2019.
97+/100 Punkte Robert Parker, August 2019 The 2017 Nit de Nin Mas d#en Caçador is a vintage they talk about like this: "We will remember this vintage as one of the most extreme of the decade, along with that of 2012. It is in years like these that the work we do in the field is rewarded. In spite of the climatic exceptionality, we have acidity and pH that seem like a miracle to us. Our vines did not suffer the severe frosts of this 2017." The wine has lower alcohol than the 2016 but the same pH of 3.3; insultingly young and tender, it doesn't feel like the wine had a long élevage in oak. It has kept very good freshness and great balance. It's tasty, pungent and long, with power and elegance and all the components to develop nicely in bottle.
93-94/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 2017 The 2016 Kamptal Riesling Heiligenstein 1ÖTW is super pure, fresh, precise and mineral on the nose, offering flinty flavors of crushed stones and lemon juice. On the palate, this Heiligenstein is enormously finessed, racy-vital and elegant. It shows a certain lightness without losing complexity, intensity or length. The wine is firmly structured, but all seems filigreed and mineral here, with no charming sweetness, no creaminess, no compromises. It is a pure Heiligenstein, and the finish is salty, piquant and very compact. A highly promising dry Riesling and an impressive Heiligenstein. Tasted as a sample in late June 2017.
94/100 Punkte Falstaff Rotweinguide 2017 Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung.
97/100 Punkte Robert Parker April 2020 The more delicate, ethereal and fine 2016 La Dama is also pure Garnacha from old head-pruned and dry-farmed vines from different plots in the village of San Martín de Unx on limestone-rich soils. The vines are worked organically and biodynamically, and the fermentation and work in the vineyard is with the natural yeasts and with as little intervention as possible, as they want to express the place and the conditions of the year. 2016 was a cooler year with good rain, perfect and slow ripening of the grapes that kept good acidity. The wines are fresh, floral and expressive, especially this one#it exploded with aromas of violets as I pulled the cork and decanted the wine. This has to be the most delicate, ethereal and mineral vintage of La Dama so far. It's subtle and harmonious, like a watercolor (Elisa was talking about Monet); it was expressive when opened and then closed down and was slow to open up in the glass. It's nuanced and complex, w
91/100 Punkte Vinous May 2017 Moderately saturated ruby-red; this is darker than Tedeschi's 2013 Amarone. Floral and herbal nuances complement spicy dark plum and blueberry flavors. Offers lovely balance and focus on the long, very lively finish. A blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and small amounts of local grapes such as Rossignola, Oseleta and others.
91/100 Punkte Wine Spectator Mar 2017 Firm tannins are tightly knit to the core of crushed blackberry, wild herb, tarry mineral and abundant spice notes in this sleek, full-bodied red. Fresh and focused, this should open nicely with air or short-term cellaring. Best from 2018 through 2027. 10,000 cases made.
92/100 Punkte Wine Spectator, November 15, 2017 This bright and zesty Champagne is lightly juicy and appealing, offering flavors of Honeycrisp apple, ripe white cherry, biscuit and pickled ginger. Balanced and lacy in texture, with a lingering, spiced finish. Drink now through 2022.
95/100 Punkte Robert Parker, March 2020 From the latest harvest pass and the oldest vines, though no botrytis yet highly ripe and overripe grapes, the 2018 Grüner Veltliner Smaragd M is very concentrated and intense but clear and elegant on the slightly flinty nose. Sourced in the Kellerberg, Loibenberg Liebenberg and the terraced western part of the Kollmütz, this is a lush and rich, very intense yet elegant Veltliner with lots of power but also remarkable finesse and lingering salinity on the finish. Drinking this wine young is ridiculous and a waste of its talents and potential greatness. Although I don't know where the wine going from here I suppose it will develop very well over the next 10 years. The 2018, unlike the other Smaragd vines, was destemmed, macerated for up to 24 hours and 50% fermented in large (25 hectoliter) oak vats, and the lees were stirred once per month. Bottled in August 2019 and tasted at the domain in September.
94/100 Punkte Robert Parker, March 2020 The 2018 Ried Kellerberg Grüner Veltliner Smaragd is coolish, fresh and deep on the flinty and stony as well herbal nose with its tobacco flavors. Complex as always. Full-bodied, rich and elegant on the palate, this is a structured, spicy-piquant, tannic and very mineral Veltliner with a long and complex, tightly woven and unique finish. This is a great, slowly developing Veltliner with remarkable elegance, finesse and mineral freshness. Quite powerful on the aftertaste. Bottled in August 2019 and tasted at the domain in September.
94/100 Punkte Robert Parker, March 2020 The 2018 Ried Kellerberg Riesling Smaragd opens with an intensely fruity but coolish, piquant and spicy bouquet of crushed stones, potted ginger and other veggies. Very clear and precise. Lush and intense on the palate, with a remarkably vivacious acidity, this is a dense and concentrated, quite rich and fleshy but refined and very elegant as well as refreshing Kellerberg with good phenolic grip on the finish. Tasted at the domain in September 2019.
94/100 Punkte Robert Parker October 2018 From the wine-fashion-horse father-and-son team of Tommaso and Roberto Cavalli, the 2015 Cavalli is a lusty blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc and 35% Petit Verdot. This is the estate's top-shelf wine. It is aged in a combination of barrique and tonneaux for 18 months. Cavalli reveals a dark and luscious fruit profile with plenty of dark blackberry, Morello cherry and plum to bring the wine through its aging evolution. You get lots of primary intensity over a mid-weight palate that ends with a blast of very crisp acidity.
96/100 Punkte James Suckling September 2018 Creme de cassis, freshly picked blueberries, crushed violets, hot stones, dried sage and thyme, charcoal and bark. Full body, tightly worked tannins and a long yet tight finish. The palate shows real transparency and a sense of minerality in addition to the stellar depth you would expect. Drink in 2022.
