93/100 Punkte Vinous Sep 2016 Medium yellow. Aromas of lemon, orange zest, crushed rock, rosemary and medicinal herbs reminded me of a topnotch Chablis. Wonderfully elegant, precise and fine-grained, with intense soft citrus flavors framed by perfectly integrated acidity (actually a moderate-for-the-vintage 4.0 grams per liter). Classy, seamless and utterly distinctive, with strong rocky minerality and a very long, perfumed back end. Not at all an outsized wine, this beauty finishes with terrific lift. Burrier noted that he could have served this wine first or last in the tasting (last year, he presented it first among his numerous climats), as it's from limestone soil above mother rock, with virtually no clay. The plateau around the winery is the youngest place in the area, geologically speaking, and Burrier noted that it's hard to grow anything on this windy, "austere" site.
92/100 Punkte Wine Spectator, November 15, 2017 This bright and zesty Champagne is lightly juicy and appealing, offering flavors of Honeycrisp apple, ripe white cherry, biscuit and pickled ginger. Balanced and lacy in texture, with a lingering, spiced finish. Drink now through 2022.
91/100 Punkte Wine Spectator Nov 30, 2018 Enticingly ripe, with dense raspberry and blackberry paste flavors forming the core while light anise, sweet spice and toast notes fill in around it. A licorice edge takes center stage through the finish. For the hedonist crowd. Drink now through.
91/100 Punkte James Suckling, Oct 2019 A very fresh and lively Lirac with ripe red plums and raspberries. Some boysenberries, too. The palate has such smooth and lively tannins and delivers a bright, juicy impression. From organically grown grapes. Drink now.
93/100 Punkte Robert Parker June 2018 Bold, intense and flavorful, the 2017 Tavel La Reine des Bois continues to set the standard for the appellation. It's a rich, full-bodied rosé, with lush, mouth-filling flavors of cherries, raspberries and white chocolate, underscored by lime zest and refreshing brine notes. The price is creeping up, but it remains a benchmark in terms of quality.
93/100 Punkte Vinous August 2018 Brilliant orange-pink. Displays heady, mineral-accented raspberry, cherry and blood orange scents, with a suave floral accent that builds in the glass. Sappy and concentrated yet energetic as well, offering palate-staining red fruit, citrus zest and lavender pastille flavors and a hint of fennel. Shows real power and red fruit-driven character on the finish, which hangs on with impressive tenacity. I'd look at this rich, weighty Tavel more as a light red wine than a pink wine and serve it accordingly, with full-flavored, strongly seasoned, even earthy foods, perhaps even alongside grilled or braised red meat dishes.
90/100 Punkte Robert Parker, Oct 2019 The 2018 Cotes du Rhone Rose La Dame Rousse is another solid example of this cuvée, which is a perennial value favorite. Plump and flavorful, it's marked by strawberry and melon flavors, with a juicy, mouthwatering finish.
90/100 Punkte Vinous August 2019 Light vivid orange. Ripe red berry and citrus fruit aromas are complicated by a subtle floral note and a hint of dusty minerals. Fleshy, spice-tinged raspberry and bitter cherry flavors open up slowly and turn sweeter with air. Distinctly concentrated but lively as well, closing with firm grip and repeating cherry and floral notes. Nothing easygoing here (it does check in at 14.5% alcohol, by the way), despite its relatively humble appellation.
90/100 Punkte Vinous June 2017 Brilliant orange. Aromas of tangerine, strawberry and fresh flowers show very good clarity and a subtle mineral flourish. Juicy and sharply focused on the palate, offering sappy red berry flavors that put on weight with air. Fleshy, smooth and dry, finishing with tight focus and minerally persistence.
