Both offer robust fruit intensity with soft, mellow tannins. The bouquet is saddled with lots of ripe, black fruit with lingering tones of smoke, spice, resin and sweet tobacco. This is a full-bodied Sicilian red to drink with spicy or barbecued meat dishes.

Silky tannins wrap around a core of raspberry jam, sweet herbs, mint and wild flowers in this super-expressive, inviting wine. There is so much to like.

The 2015 Chianti Classico Riserva is a beautiful wine that plays its best cards in terms of mouthfeel. The bouquet is beautiful as well, with dark fruit nuances that are layered tight. You get wild cherries and red rose petal in generous supply. The mouthfeel is light to medium in texture, but it shows more smoothness and silkiness compared to many of its peers.

Bottled in June 2018, this Federspiel is very elegant and fresh on the palate, where just one gram of residual sugar gives a clear and stimulating character. The grapes for the Superin were harvested during the second half of September, so quite early, which gives the 2017 its stimulating character. Tasted in Dürnstein/Wachau, September 2018.

Very elegant, pure and salty on the palate, this is a full-bodied, piquant and well-structured Loibenberg. Still very young but balanced, with vivacious acidity and good tannins, this 2016 should have a great aging potential.

Bold, pungent and intensely aromatic, the 2013 exudes richness and intensity, but in a gracious, mid-weight style. Black cherry, plum, sage, menthol, licorice and smoke meld into the unctuous, super-refined finish. This is one of the most impressive young Caberlots I have tasted.

The 2014 Sicilia Nero d'Avola Lu Patri exhibits uniform ripeness. This is a very important quality of this vintage. Because the fruit is not too ripe, you can make out the smaller aromatic details that might otherwise be lost. Those details include wild cherry, rose petal marmalade and sweet tobacco. This wine rests in French barrel for 14 months.
