They both offer generous fruit tones, especially when cultivated in warm climates like Sicily. They also both offer superior softness and textural richness. This wine is a classic example of the happy marriage between Sicily's greatest red grape and its distant French relative. Dark fruit, cherry, spice and vanilla come together in seamless fashion.

Freshly cut flowers, bright red-fleshed fruit and a touch of French oak blossom nicely in the glass. The inclusion of Merlot gives the Riserva lovely mid-palate pliancy and depth. This is a terrific wine for the year.

The palate is full-bodied and elegant, pure and very juicy, with structure and minerals. The wine seems less powerful, tension-filled and vibrant than last year#s 2013, but in its delicacy, finesse and lively minerality, it is still one of the best Grüners along the Danube in 2014. Very promising.

It fermented in stainless steel tanks until the end of March (Proidl inoculated the young wine with Champagne yeast to finish the natural fermentation) and aged in old barrels until August. The wine passed the process of malolactic fermentation but this is just for you to know (and to destroy your reservations re: this issue) # indeed it is not detectable here. What is on offer is a brilliantly citrus colored Riesling with a lovely, perfumed bouquet of crushed rocks with orange and lime flavors that is very pure. This is a thrilling, extremely mineral-scented and tightly structured Riesling with a searing acidity and stimulating piquancy. Though almost drying in its pure, stone-dust taste there is an impressive fruit concentration on the palate and a long aftertaste which gives this outstanding Austrian Riesling great aging potential. At once rich and subtle, with flavors of white peach and sage, the 2013 Reserve is supple, intense and alluringly spicy. Ehrenfels is Proidl#s warmest site, but the altitude and bronzite soil give the wine a stately coolness. With time, it is always the estate#s best dry Riesling.

Stoffig, straff, engmaschig, weiße Frucht, betont mineralische Textur, finessenreiche, lebendige Struktur, zitronige Nuancen im Finale, wird von Flaschenreife profitieren.
