92/100 Punkte Robert Parker Dec 30, 2016 The 2012 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Mocenni 89 (100% Sangiovese) is a nicely compact and well-constructed wine with thick textural richness and lots of fruity fiber at its core. This is a delicious wine - and a slightly offbeat expression within this Tuscan appellation - that delivers generous tones of smoky, dark fruit and crushed mineral. This wine should flesh out and evolve over the next ten years. Only 5,000 bottles were produced.
92/100 Punkte Wine Spectator, Oct 31, 2016 Tough, rustic, chewy tannins overshadow black cherry and blackberry fruit notes in this muscular red, which is concentrated but not out of bounds. Earth, tea and spice notes emerge in the aftertaste. Best from 2019 through 2030.
91/100 Punkte vinous Sept 2015 The 2012 Chianti Classico Riserva is gorgeous. Supple and radiant on the palate, the 2012 Chianti Classico Riserva offers striking delineation and plenty of class. Freshly cut flowers, bright red-fleshed fruit and a touch of French oak blossom nicely in the glass. The inclusion of Merlot gives the Riserva lovely mid-palate pliancy and depth. This is a terrific wine for the year.
93/100 Punkte Robert Parker Apr 2015 The oak is a little more obvious in the 2012 Pujanza Cisma than in the Norte. This is also 100% Tempranillo from a single vineyard, a 0.8 hectare plot they call Finca Valcabada which was planted in 1925 and is located at 600 meters altitude. The wine fermented in French oak vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in French oak barriques for 22 months. The nose seems less nuanced than the Norte, with the oak taking the lead role and perhaps it will develop in bottle but today it does not have those flowery tones of the Norte. The palate is compact and medium to full-bodied with abundant fine-grained tannins that are right now a little stiff. It ends quite dry and would need a little more time in bottle to harmonize. This is a great, modern Rioja. Mind the price tag, though. 1'200 bottles.
88/100 Punkte Robert Parker Dec 30, 2016 The 2014 Dorando is a 100% Malcantone Chardonnay fermented in concrete eggs and wooden vats. The citrus-colored wine opens with a clear, fresh and pretty intense bouquet of ripe white fruit, melon, lime and kumquat flavors. Medium-bodied, round and fresh on the palate this is an elegant, well-structured and nicely salty food wine, with an excellent phenolic grip and tension. Ginger flavors in the good aftertaste. The 2014 is still young, but perfect with all kinds of fish and white meats.
92/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 2016 The eponymous 2014 Exopto has an unusual blend, as it's mostly Graciano with 30% Tempranillo and 10% Garnacha. Sometimes Graciano does not ripen properly in cool vintages, so this cuvée was not produced in 2013. In 2014 they did a green harvest and lowered the yields to ensure proper ripening, even in a late and cooler vintage. It fermented in 1,500-liter oak vats with malolactic in barrel the following spring. The upbringing was in 50% new French oak barrels and lasted 18 months, the first six of which with the fine lees, which were not stirred. They managed a good ripening, harvesting quite late into early October. This wine mixes grapes from the warmer and cooler zones of Rioja, so it mixes the characters with focus in the Graciano. It is balsamic and aromatic, with aromas of peppercorns and a core of black fruit. The palate is serious, with depth and silkiness, as well as polished tannins; it is ready for a long life ahead. It could be
94/100 Punkte Parker Dec 2008 The NV Extra Brut Cuvee Blanc de Blancs Celebris is 100% Chardonnay composed of vintages 1995, 1996, 1998 and 1999. This powerful, sinewy wine possesses a striking combination of soaring aromatics and deep, rich fruit all buttressed by notable structure. The ripe tropical fruit is intermingled with sweet notes of oak, flowers and minerals in a gorgeous expression of Chardonnay. Although the wine already shows some pretty signs of early tertiary complexity, there is more than enough vibrancy and freshness to ensure at least a decade of very fine drinking. The cork is labeled C 7386, and this bottle was disgorged early December, 2007. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020.
91-92/100 Punkte Robert Parker Jun 2016 The 2015 Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Loibner Steinertal is a medium to full-bodied wine with a very nice and mineral acidity and a refreshing bright fruit flavor. Tightly woven but very elegant and with grip. Very promising.
92-93/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 31, 2017 The 2016 Ried Steinertal Grüner Veltliner Smaragd is from the coolest Grüner Veltliner single vineyard of the Pichler family, with sandy gneiss and granite soils. The 2016 opens with a clear and fresh but also intense fruit aroma that is still a bit discreet on the nose. The attack on the palate is really fresh and piquant due to remarkable acidity. The wine is pure and mineral, shows a good phenolic grip and reveals white fruit aromas like yellow-skinned apples. The finish is clear, fresh and grippy and shows some attractive crispy fruit flavors. This is a lean, elegant, well balanced, medium to full-bodied Grüner Veltliner with less than 13% alcohol. Tasted as a sample in early July 2017. Scheduled for bottling in late July 2017.
96/100 Punkte James Suckling A stunning mirabelle, herbal and flinty nose that's as intense as it is delicate. The muscular leanness of a long-distance runner combined with enormous minerality make this a very special grüner veltliner with an extremely long, exciting finish. You could drink it now, but this will age for at least a couple of decades.
96/100 Punkte James Suckling Super-ripe and super-fresh with hints of all the citrus fruits and some stone fruits, too. The finish has a ton of dried citrus and staggering vitality that suggests this wine has decades of ageing potential.
93/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 31, 2017 The 2015 Langenlois Spiegel 1ÖTW displays deep, rich, perfectly ripe yet pure, fresh and delicate fruit with herbal and even mineral aromas that give a beautiful transparency and finesse. Full-bodied, rich and mineral on the palate, this is a very elegant, vital and well-structured Grüner Veltliner in beautiful balance. It has fine tannins, lingering salinity and tension. Perfect to drink today but the 2015 will still shine in ten or more years from now. The Spiegel is more round, rich and feminine than the Käferberg, which is more pure, fresh and piquant due to the partly crystalline soils. Tasted in July 2017.
Klassisch!
93-95/100 Punkte Robert Parker June 2016 From gneiss soils covered with white and red sand and finally loess, the 2015 Engabrunner Stein 1ÖTW Grüner Veltliner is a very clear, deep and flinty flavored wine with superripe white-fruit aromas on the nose. Rich and elegant on the palate. this is a generously fruity but precise and tension-filled Veltliner with a lush texture and a precisely mineral piquancy in the pure and salty finish. An impressive Veltliner full of grip and aging potential. Due to hail damage yields were very, very low in 2015 and only 4'000 liters of the 2015 Stein have been bottled from 5.25 hectares of vines. It was the deadline day of this issue (June 3) when I got the chance to taste the 2015s of Mister Veltliner Bernhard Ott, one of the leading wine estates in the Wagram region, if not the whole Danube valley. These wines, especially the grands crus or Erste Lage wines from Grüner Veltliner (indicated on the label as 1ÖTW), are the greatest wines Ott has bott
91-92/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 2017 Coming from gneiss soils covered with white and red sand and finally loess, the 2016 Engabrunner Stein 1ÖTW is Ott's one and only Kamptal Grüner Veltliner. Intensely citrus-colored, the wine opens with a clear and flinty bouquet of perfectly ripe white fruits and exciting citrus aromas. Round, finessed and elegant on the palate, this is a full-bodied, complex and mineral Veltliner with intense and lingering fruit aromas that are almost tropical. Although the 2016 is a bit too sweet for my taste, and also lunch or dinner, it is well structured due to the fine acidity and perfectly integrated minerality. Mind, though, that as soon as the CO2 has disappeared, the wine will taste sweeter than in the beginning. Tasted as a sample at Schloss Gobelsburg in July 2017.
95/100 Punkte James Suckling A very distinctive grüner veltliner from the flinty nose through the sleek and sinuous body to the intensely mineral finish. Made from biodynamically-grown grapes. Drink now. Screw cap.
Einkellern!
91+/100 Punkte Robert Parker Feb 2018 The one white (so far) is the 2015 Horizonte de Exopto Blanco, produced with grapes from the scattered white vines intermixed with the reds in the old vineyards they work in Ábalos (12 different plots), usually in the poorer soils to balance yields. It's produced in a slightly oxidative way with a majority of Viura, 10% Garnacha Blanca and 5% Malvasía Riojana along with some other white varieties, all fermented together. Fermentation started in stainless steel without added yeasts and finished in barriques with an élevage of 12 months in contact with the lees, which were stirred during the first six months in barrel. There are some citrus and caramel aromas with good ripeness, and in a warmer and more Mediterranean vintage like 2015, it goes through malolactic, so the style of cooler years (2013, 2014, 2016) and warmer years is different. Here, there is more volume and more texture, but to keep the austerity of the soils, they look for freshne
91/100 Punkte Vinous, May 2017 (fermented and aged on its lees for a year in neutral French oak barrels) Light bright gold. Ripe tangerine, pear, tarragon and toasty lees on the nose, lifted by a hint of minerality. Dry and focused on the palate, offering concentrated orchard and citrus fruit, honey and buttered toast flavors and a subtle touch of honeysuckle. Closes smoky, tight and long, leaving a suave floral note behind.
