87+/100 Punkte Robert Parker, Jan 31, 2017 Coming from a south-facing, 60-are vineyard on deep marl soils situated at 420 meters above sea level, the 2015 Pinot Blanc opens with ripe tropical fruit aromas intermixed with new oak and stirred yeast flavors. Fermented in stainless steel and oak vats, but aged in new and used barriques until the bottling in May, this is a full-bodied, round and very aromatic Pinot Blanc; it has a smooth acidity and an elegant texture. The 2015 is still made-up and lacks the purity and finessed freshness of a great wine, but the round and smooth-textured mouthfeel will be really pleasant for many consumers. The finish reveals a good grip and salinity, so the wine may improve with bottle age.
89/100 Punkte Robert Parker Oct 2016 The 2015 Prazo de Roriz is a roughly equal blend of Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional and Tinta Barroca, with small bits of Tinta Roriz and Tinta Amarela, aged for six months in used French oak. This is typically a good value. This might be my favorite in some time. There isn't a lot of concentration in the mid-palate and it isn't the type of wine you want to age for 20 years. It's not $50, either. It's a very nice bargain with many virtues. The fruit here is just gorgeous, vivid, pure and clean. The structure lifts it and delivers it beautifully to the palate. The texture is silky and the finish is just a bit tight. Overall, it is hard to lean up more on this since it doesn't have a lot of upside potential, but if you drink it over the next few years, you might like it even better than the score would suggest.
89+/100 Punkte Robert Parker June 2016 The 2013 Reserve Blaufränkisch, Sankt Laurent is beautifully pure, deep, spicy and fleshy on the intense and concentrated nose, displaying calf liverwurst, herbal and graphite flavors along with dark cherry and berry aromas. Full-bodied, silky and fresh on the palate, this is a pure and elegant yet still somewhat restrained red wine full of tension, grip and expression. The wine lacks the finesse and purity and also the tension of the finest wines.
92/100 Punkte Wine Spectator, Nov 15, 2018 Starts with a seductive aroma of Asian spice and cocoa, which leads into a deep well of plum and dark chocolate flavors, accented by hints of orange. The tannins provide structure, while vanilla spice marks the long finish. It's hard to resist reaching for another sip. Drink now through 2026.
92/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 31, 2017 Knoll's 2016 Loibner Riesling Ried Loibenberg Federspiel opens with a super clear and aromatic bouquet with bright ripe stone fruit and also flinty aromas. Very distinctive. Medium-bodied, intense and mineral but rather light and very elegant on the palate, this is a well-structured, pure and salty Loibenberg that has class and terroir expression#as a Federspiel. Fine tannins, lean, straight, pure and clear: a classic in best form.
92/100 Punkte Robert Parker Dec 2017 Entirely from old vines in the Hallgartener Jungfer and macerated for 30 to 36 hours prior to the fermentation and aging in 600-liter Halbstück vats, the 2015 Rheingau Riesling Trocken "Revoluzzer" opens with an intense, fresh and concentrated bouquet of ripe, tropical fruits intermixed with smoky/mineral and discreet oaky flavors. Despite its ripeness and richness, the "Revoluzzer" (revolutionist) is quite pure and elegant on the complex nose. On the palate, this is a full-bodied, rich and elegant but also fresh and tensioned Riesling with oaky and herbal flavors. It is tightly structured but well balanced and salty-vital in the finish, which reveals a juicy Riesling with chalky/mealy tannins and lingering salinity. It's a bit of a Burgundian Rheingau Riesling, if you so will. This has 13.5% alcohol. The acidity (no malic) is significantly lower than in the other Rieslings but ripe and vital. Bottled in September 2016 (screwcap), tasted in Nov
94/100 Punkte Vinous Feb 2016 Raised almost entirely in cask, this bottling exhibits lees-induced textural refinement and buffering of its bright citrus and mint-tinged honeydew and Persian melons. Bittersweet floral perfume and cooling herbal essences waft alluringly through the entire luscious performance, beautifully complementing what is for a Smaragd remarkable lift (at a bit under 13% alcohol). A saline, toasty and iodine-tinged evocation of shrimp-shell reduction lends mouthwatering savor to a superbly sustained finish of kaleidoscopic complexity.
92-94/100 Punkte Robert Parker Jun 2016 The 2015 Dürnsteiner Riesling Ried Kellerberg Smaragd opens cool and intense, with stony and flinty aromas of crushed stones. Full-bodied and very elegant this is a pure and rather crystalline, lingering salty and tension-filled wine with grip and personality. An outstanding Riesling, lean but intense and dense.
92+/100 Punkte Robert Parker August 31, 2017 Harvested between October 31 and November 15, Hirtzberger's 2016 Ried Hochrain Riesling Smaragd offers a clear, bright, fresh, well concentrated and spicy/stony nose with partly stewed white vineyard peach aromas. On the palate, this is a mouthful of intense and juicy Riesling with lots of grip and salt. This 2016 Hochrain is really rich and dense and will gain finesse and transparency over the years in the bottle.
96/100 Punkte James Suckling A Hirtzberger dry riesling with a stunning bouquet. Myriad flowers and spices, and herbal freshness, too. This adds up to a wine of great complexity with many subtle nuances at the long, almost silky, finish. Drink now.
