The 2016 Sicilia Adènzia is equal parts Nero d'Avola and Syrah from the heart of the Mediterranean. This is a robust and velvety-textured red wine that makes a natural pairing partner to meat or pasta with ragù. The wine speaks in clear tones with well-enunciated elements of black fruit, spice, leather and tobacco. The Syrah seems to make the biggest impact in terms of bouquet, and the Nero d'Avola guides the mid-weight nature of the palate. This wine is simple, bright and fun to drink.

The exceptional NV Adorado is a product of the past, as it's a wine that is said not to have been touched since 1967. It's a blend of the three classical grapes from Rueda#Verdejo, Palomino and Viura. There is more volatility, more intensity and pungency here, but also more finesse and depth and even more elegance. It matured in a solera system for a very long time, and initially, it must have been aged under flor yeasts. It's 16% alcohol but was originally fortified to 17%, and it's very dry and tasty. There are some 2,000 bottles of this, apparently only magnums. Wines like this are almost eternal.

The second wine in the price hierarchy is the 2017 Almirez, produced with vines aged 10 to 35 years old from their 72 hectares of vineyards in the villages of Valdefinjas and Toro. It fermented in stainless steel and matured in French oak barrels, 30% of them new, the rest second use, for 14 months. 2017 is one of the driest years with one of the earliest harvests ever, but surprisingly enough, the wines feel lighter, fresh and aromatic, expressive and open and do not show any heat. Furthermore, it feels like a fresher year in the sense that the wine integrates the oak quite well. The change here, as Marcos Eguren explained, has been in the toast of the barrels, something they started in 2015; they have lighter toasts, from a long and slow toasting of the oak, and the barrel respects the fruit a lot more. Fine-tuning continues...

This Amarone sees the same blend of grapes you get in the Podere Cariano, but the 2013 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Podere le Marognole is a bigger and more opulent wine. The sweetness is more evident in this expression (with 7.5 grams of residual sugar and 15% alcohol). You get robust dark fruit, prune and raisin with tar, smoke and black olive. This wine is aged in new oak barrique for 36 months, and you taste that extra spice and toasted intensity as a result. The wine's fiber and texture show big density and thick concentration. This medium-cool vintage saw 3,228 bottles produced.

This wine is made with fruit from outside the Classico zone, from hillside vines planted in well-drained marl soils, with 180-degree exposures from southwest to southeast. The wine's name Marne 180 plays up both of those site-specific attributes. A new wine from Tedeschi, the 2015 Amarone della Valpolicella Marne 180 is slightly more approachable when stacked against the estate's Amarone Capitel Monte Olmi. Offering bright primary fruit with good complexity in the form of spice, tobacco and dried herbs, you could serve the Marne 180 at a holiday party with a platter of French cheeses. The wine is aged in large Slavonian oak casks for 30 months. Some 120,000 bottles were made.

Donnafugata's 2018 Sicilia Anthìlia is a Catarratto-based blend with a very pretty and delicate aromatic profile that incorporates elements of white flower, honey, pear and passion fruit. This is a zesty and streamlined white wine (that sees no oak) to drink on easy occasions with light finger foods or bite-sized sushi rolls.

Disgorged after three years in July 2015 with five grams of dosage, this is a full-bodied, round, intense and very elegant Rosé with great finesse and a persist finish. Serve with food.

Light orange. High-pitched aromas of dried cherry, pungent herbs and oyster shell, with a strong mineral overtone. Dry and precise on the palate, offering lively red fruit and bitter blood orange flavors and a subtle touch of smokiness. Finishes firm, minerally and very long, leaving energetic strawberry and orange pith notes behind.

There is a white produced with Viura grapes that is only produced in cold vintages, which is exactly what the name of the 2013 Añadas Frías means. The grapes are sourced from a 1.5 hectare plot at 600 meters altitude of clay and limestone soils. It fermented in new 500-liter French oak barrels. The analytical data show figures more common in Chablis than in Rioja; the wine has a pH below three and there's no natural way the wine goes through malolactic. The nose showed intense iodine aromas and diesel-like notes, highly mineral, with a notable absence of fruit and oak. The palate is also soil-driven, with very chalky tannins and effervescent, citrusy acidity. It has a tremendously tasty finish, almost salty. This is one of those whites that feels like it was produced with stones rather than grapes. This should age in bottle forever. 1,476 bottles produced and filled in March 2015. This wine has only been released in 2007, 2010 and 2013, really

The 2015 Oberflachs Auf der Mauer has a deep, pure, fine, licorice and dark cherry bouquet with oaky/toasty aromas. On the palate this is a charming, rich, pretty juicy and intense but rather broad and saturating Pinot Noir from a very steep, terraced, warm and dry vineyard. This is pretty rich and powerful but a less exciting Pinot Noir compared to the Rüeget.

The 2017 Barbera d'Alba is a child of a hot vintage, and there's no missing its correspondingly sweet and dark fruit flavors. This vintage actually makes for an especially vibrant expression of Barbera, with solid notes of prune and spice. The fruit comes from parcels between Monforte d'Alba and Novello, from higher elevations where there is more wind and coolness. There is a pretty sweetness here and a nice balance and freshness considering the heat. You might pair this one with a beef-and-beet borscht topped with sour cream and dill.

Here is a very popular expression from Cascina Adelaide. The 2013 Barolo 4 Vigne opens to a lean and streamlined appearance with garnet and dark copper highlights. There are sweet fragrances of wild flower, rose hip and dried lavender that emerge first from the bouquet and define the wine's graceful and delicate personality. The mouthfeel is streamlined and fine, and those tannins are tucked in at the back. Although it shows a good amount of natural structure, it leaves a very polished and silky impression nonetheless. If you are looking for an approachable and easy-drinking Barolo, this is a great choice. This Barolo is pretty much ready to drink now.

Formerly known as Barolo Cannubi Boschis (the last vintage by that name was 2012), the 2013 Barolo Aleste has been renamed to honor the youngest generation of the Sandrone family, Alessia and Stefano. The wine name Aleste takes the first three letters from each grandchild's name. The move represents the culmination of more than 50 harvests completed by this legendary winemaker and his desire to pass on the torch. His grandchildren are at different points in their respective viticulture and enology university studies. Now under a different name, the wine obviously shows the same delicate floral nuances that you get with this wine (fruit from Cannubi is always harvested first). This is a complete and exciting wine with delicate notes of wild berry and smoke backed by licorice and blue flower.

The 2013 Barolo Aleste is a wine of striking purity and nuance. It is also one of the most finessed, vivid young Barolos I have ever tasted from Sandrone. The translucence of Nebbiolo comes through loud and clear. Freshly cut flowers, mint and finely cut fruit are some of the signatures. This wine has developed beautifully in recent vintages as the oak influence is less than it was just a few years ago. Beams of tannin and bright, salivating acidity add finesse to this translucent, exceptional Barolo. Aleste is the new name Sandrone is using for the Barolo formerly known as Cannubi Boschis.

The Sandrone family lost 25% of their fruit production in this challenging harvest. The wine offers fragrant notes of wild cherry and cassis with smoke, crushed stone and candied orange peel. The tannins are firm and textured. It is the palate (more than the nose) that requires more time to soften.

There is more purple and black fruit in the 2015 Barolo Aleste compared to past vintages from Luciano Sandrone and also fewer of those floral accents that characterize the Cannubi Boschis where this fruit comes from. All the same, the bouquet comes off equally as intense and as generous as ever, if not more so. This wine also seems ready from an aromatic point of view, even if it needs some extra time to reverberate in the mouth. It is compact and firm, with good, meaty fruit, and it's refreshingly expansive in scope.

Having said that, it veers close to being too austere and hard-bodied, especially at this young stage of its life. Of Sandrone's two new Barolo releases, this wine definitely needs more time to evolve and soften with extra years of bottle aging. The tannins are more evident and the wine's firm backbone acts to support dark fruit flavors with distant accents of spice, licorice and tobacco. The 2012 Luciano Sandrone wines are very good, but remain far from the amazing heights achieved by this historic winery in the best years. Like many of the wines from this vintage (across the various townships that make up the appellation), they are slightly less expressive and they speak at a lower volume.

The 2009 Barolo Cannubi Boschis Sibi et Paucis starts off with minerality and tightness, and then within just a few moments in the glass it becomes more robust and generous, opening quickly with each successive sip. Dark black fruit begins to appear, and then some of the minty notes that Cannubi Boschis vines tend to offer, as well as hints of rubbed rosemary. Also, the wine covers the whole mouth very nicely. This is going to be a rare find at just 900 bottles set apart for this late release, which is about 10% of production on the whole. This is a special Barolo, definitely a keeper.

The 2013 Barolo Cannubi is a delicately perfumed wine that shows fine aromas of pressed rose, wild berry, tar, licorice and bright cherry cola. The wine is vibrant and pristine in terms of its intensity, yet it delivers that intensity with measured precision. I remember a time not too long ago when Cascina Adelaide adopted a very different approach to winemaking with more evident oak influences. Fast forward to today, and the estate's wines are fine and finessed instead. They show a very positive stylistic evolution. Give it a few more years of cellar aging.

The Luciano Sandrone 2012 Barolo le Vigne shows the trademark ripeness that I so often identify in this historic product. The bouquet is round and plush with thick layers of dark cherry marmalade, blackberry preserves and dark currant. Beyond those apparent fruit aromas, Le Vigne offers dark spice and licorice with a beautiful menthol signature on the finish. The wine's natural structure is padded by soft tannins and lush fruit consistency. In all, this important wine is less vibrant and distinctive compared to other excellent vintages such as 2008 and 2010. The 2013 Barolo le Vigne is another stellar achievement from Luciano Sandrone and his family. Since 2010, the blend for this wine has been tweaked just a bit to include more fruit from the Baudana cru in Serralunga d'Alba. This wine shows a ripe and succulent mouthfeel with ample richness and power that drives the wine smoothly over the palate. These darker qualities can be attributed to the Baudana fruit that is known for power and heft. Fruit from the Villero cru in Castiglione Falletto offers delicate perfumes and ethereal elegance. This vineyard site is home to loose, sandy soils. The combination of these two extremes is simply delightful.

Sandrone's 2013 Barolo Le Vigne is a real stunner. Powerful, ample and deep, the 2013 exudes class from start to finish. The addition of Serralunga fruit in the blend has added depth and structure in all of the wine's dimensions. Dark red cherry, plum, mint, rose petal, tar and licorice build into the huge, voluptuous finish. Readers who can find the 2013 should not hesitate, as it is outrageously beautiful and also one of the clear wines of the vintage. Vineyard sites are Baudana, Villero, Vignane and Merli.

Luciano Sandrone and his daughter Barbara tell me that the 2014 harvest needs explaining. Many are quick to dismiss it given the difficulties of the growing season that saw abundant rain, hail and bombe d'acqua, or "water bombs," which are a dangerous phenomenon with intense rainfall in a very small radius. But hard work does pay off. The Sandrone family employed 38 people for farming, when the average harvest requires only 22 pairs of vineyard hands. Great care was required to keep the leaves and the clusters healthy. The 2014 Barolo le Vigne is bright and fruit-forward. It is perhaps more accessible in the near term compared to past editions. It delivers dark fruit nuances over a mid-weight and compact mouthfeel.

The 2014 Barolo Le Vigne once again shows the wisdom of blending fruit from different sites. If there is a vintage where blending has the potential to be the difference-maker, 2014 is it. So it is hardly surprising to find the 2014 Le Vigne in such great shape. The red cherry jam, mint, cedar and floral notes are all finely sketched. Medium in body and classy, the 2014 is beautifully textured and inviting from start to finish. All the elements are simply in the right place. Vineyard sources are Merli, Vignane, Villero and Baudana.

Luciano Sandrone expected this would be a beautiful year for Nebbiolo, with fruit showing the qualities of an important wine all throughout the growing season and right up to harvest. And yes, the 2015 Barolo le Vigne did turn out to be a great vintage, with a full aromatic array of perfumed rose, lavender and violet. For all of its generosity and expressiveness, with just a beautiful bouquet that sings out a seductive mezzo-soprano aria, be forewarned that in the mouth this is followed by rigidity and nervousness. That explosive bouquet might mislead you into thinking this is a rather evolved wine, but you certainly feel its youth on the palate. To be frank, this was an easy year to make wine, and it's not a big surprise that this edition of le Vigne turned out to be as classic and as good as it is. It should get even better with time.

The 2015 Barolo Le Vigne is a wine of pure and extreme grace. Silky and nuanced on the palate, with tremendous character, the 2015 is all class. Rose petal, mint and sweet red berry fruit are laced together in this super-expressive Barolo. Medium in body, with radiant fruit and brisk tannins, the 2015 Le Vigne is a terrific example of the vintage at its best. Today, the 2015 is decidedly reticent. I have seen Le Vigne open up with time in bottle. I imagine that will be the case here as well, although the wine is quite closed down at this stage. Vineyard sources are Baudana, Villero, Vignane and Merli.

Now with the distance of time, the 2009 harvest was perhaps not as elegant (generally speaking) as the 2008, but mercifully cooler than the 2007. A ten-year late release, the 2009 Barolo Le Vigne Sibi et Paucis offers plenty of dense, black fruit, along with succulence and plumpness. This vintage of Le Vigne sourced fruit from Monforte d#Alba, but this is no longer the case in the vintage to follow. The tannic structure is there, and this wine seems to be held together with a magical string. You'll find warm, earthy tones covering the whole mouth evenly. As elegant as this Barolo is, I'd be tempted to pair its dark fruit and earthy notes with a simple homemade pasta with sausage, onion and sautéed chanterelles or any other home-cooked dish that is near to your heart.

Peter Wegelin's single-vineyard 2016 Malanser Blauburgunder Scadena is from very calcareous slate soils from a clos that is located below the Bothmar castle. The wine was aged for 12 months in 80% new barriques and another 12 months in used tonneaux. The bouquet is deep, intensely ripe and fruity as well as toasty but very elegant. The palate is full-bodied, dense and tightly structured, with fine but grippy tannins and good acidity. This clear-cut 2016 needs lots of aeration (or time), but its vitality and tension is promising. Release date: autumn this year. Tasted January 2019.

From an old high-density plot with 50- to 100-year-old Blaufränkisch vines on the deep and loamy soils of Zagersdorf, the 2012 Jagini Zagersdorf is very pure, precise, fresh and spicy on the nose. Silky textured, with a ripe and fleshy fruit concentration, ripe tannins and great tension, this is a lovely pure and grippy red raised for three years in barrels of different sizes (500, 1500 and 1700 liters) and another year in bottle. The plot is planted with 8,000 vines per hectare (1.20 x 1.20 m) and the material is obviously from Hungary (no clones, just mass selections). Whereas the 2011 was only two years in barrels, the 2012 (and the 2013) remain three years due to the loamy soils which produces wines that develop only slowly.

The 2015 Boca is a charming wine, with soothing and seductive fruit exuberance. Compared to the 2016 vintage (which I tasted from barrel), this 2015 edition is slightly more accessible and open. That's the characteristic of this vintage. It shows soft roundness and ripeness with extremely intact aromas of wild berry, licorice and candied raspberry.

This property and Tenuta Argentiera look onto each other and are absolutely blessed by some of the most magnificent positioning possible along the Tuscan Coast. The vineyard that produces the 2015 Bolgheri Superiore spans from the seashore at five meters above sea level to 150 meters. The just-bottled red 2018 Bozeto de Exopto is a superb young and fruit-driven blend of 50% Tempranillo and 40% Garnacha with a 10% pinch of Graciano to add freshness. The destemmed but uncrushed grapes fermented in stainless steel, concrete and oak containers with indigenous yeasts and matured for six months, the Garnacha in concrete, the Tempranillo in oak vats and a blend of Tempranillo and Graciano in well-seasoned barriques. 2018 was clearly a cool, Atlantic vintage (as opposed to Mediterranean vintages), and the grapes ripened slowly; some of the grapes (the Garnacha) were harvested later than ever. This juicy and fruit-driven young red is aromatic and more fluid, fresher and approachable. The palate is fresh and light, a wine to enjoy without moderation! 75,000 bottles produced make this 75% of the production of the winery. It was bottled in April 2019.

This wine sees fruit sourced from the warm and sunny Maremma area on coastal Tuscany. The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon shows an inky dark appearance with dark garnet color saturation. It offers a fine and chiseled aromatic profile with dark berry fruit followed by spice, anise seeds and an unmistakable balsamic note that reminds me of eucalyptus oil. This is a mid-weight expression of the grape that is both accessible and easy to drink straight out of the gate. It ages in neutral oak for 12 months. Some 20,000 bottles were made.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon, from Brancaia's vineyards in Maremma, expresses a good bit of varietal character and overall nuance. Fleshy, dark and seductive, the 2016 will drink well with minimal cellaring. Today, it is very pretty and delicious.

This is the wine that put Brancaia on the map of Tuscany's most celebrated estates. A blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Sangiovese and a smaller percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon (fermented with indigenous yeasts in conical steel vats and aged in new and neutral barrique for 20 months), the 2015 Il Blu is a wine that enthusiastically embraces the energy, heat and sunshine of the vintage. The fruit is dark and slightly sweet with aromas of black cherries and dried blackberries. Those flavors deliver rich, soft intensity. The wine is not quite full-bodied, because the mouthfeel is elegant and finessed, but it does deliver lasting power, freshness and polished tannins.

This blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Sangiovese and a smaller percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon has one of the most impressive track records of a modern Tuscan blend that I can think of. The 2016 Il Blu is a beautifully balanced and precise blend that pits the freshness and authenticity of Sangiovese against the softness and fruitiness of the Merlot. Although the Sangiovese plays a supporting role in the blend, its influence and signature go far to creating the overall identity of this special wine. It's a very nice effort to celebrate with a grilled T-bone.

Red cherry, flowers, mint, cinnamon and blood orange all give the 2016 brightness and vitality, and yet there is plenty of the richness readers have come to expect from this wine as well. This is the inaugural release of a new single-vineyard wine from Loacker's Corte Pavone estate in Tuscany. The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Corte Pavone Fiore del Vento (with only 1,800 bottles made) is a thickly endowed expression of Brunello that excels both in terms of bouquet and mouthfeel texture. This is a beautifully expressive wine in terms of aromas, with dark fruit, ripe cherry, blackberry, toasted almond, balsam herb and crushed mineral. You get the full Brunello package here, albeit on the modern and contemporary side of the style spectrum. Similar intensity and generosity are imparted to the palate, where the wine performs with balanced power and elegance. The wine could age, but it also drinks well straight out of the gate.

Loacker's 2014 Brunello di Montalcino Corte Pavone is an open and immediate wine that makes a good first impression. The wine delivers a savory side that is most apparent on first nose. It is composed of leather, spice and even a touch of smoked meat. Dark fruit remains at the core. Like the other wines from this vintage, the mouthfeel is on the short side, but the generosity of the bouquet does much to compensate this fact. In this difficult vintage, bottle production is only 5,000 strong.

The single-vineyard red 2016 Camino de Santa Cruz is a wine she wanted to call Rivas de Tereso, but she was not allowed, so she named it after the plot where the grapes grow. It's an aromatic red with intense aromas of violets and the hallmark signature of 2016, and has a surplus of minerality because of the high limestone content of the soils, with some Mediterranean undertones. With time in the glass, it reveals some classical Rioja notes of forest floor, truffle and mushrooms. It fermented in 300-liter amphorae and matured in well-seasoned, neutral 500-liter oak barrels for 12 months. The medium-bodied palate is elegant, and the tannins are round and make it very pleasant and approachable.

Poboleda is in the northeast of the appellation, in the Siurana Valley at the foot of the Montsant Mountains, which provides a cooler microclimate with more rain, a longer cycle and later ripening than the southern part of Priorat. 2014 was a mild year complicated by rains in September, which required sorting grapes. This resulted in a 2014 1902 Centenary Carignan with half a point less alcohol than the cool 2013. This 2014 feels exactly like something in between the 2013 and 2015 vintages#with the freshness and tension of 2013 and the power and ripeness closer to 2015. It has a good compromise between power and elegance; it's concentrated but with tension and freshness, lots of tannins but not astringent. A very concentrated but harmonious Cariñena, one of the best in Priorat. Only 864 bottles were filled unfined and unfiltered in April 2016 after 16 months in new French oak barrels.

2015 saw a return to dry and warm years like 2012, and the 2015 1902 Centenary Carignan was saved from the heat wave in July by 60 liters of rain in June. The destemmed grapes fermented with neutral yeasts in stainless steel, and the wine matured in three brand new French oak barrels for 16 months. The technical data lists almost seven grams of residual sugar, which surprised me. It's ripe, full-bodied and powerful, concentrated and juicy. It's a very powerful and heady Cariñena, with a polished texture. It feels tender and young. 864 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2017. I had the chance to taste a bottle of the never-released 2005, an experimental vintage from a year that could have some similarities with 2015, and the wine felt very balanced and still young, not showing any heat.

It has great concentration, but at the same time, the wine has higher acidity, which makes it very balanced. It aged sur lie for 56 months before it was disgorged. This is a little more oxidative of the three, with a little more development, more Mediterranean. It's very tasty.

The red grapes were fermented like whites (without skins), and because they liked what it added to the wine, they repeated it in 2016 but not in 2017 and 2018. This is fresh, mineral and austere and very remarkable for the style of the vintage. Like the rest of the range, it's bone-dry and very long and tasty. You get lots of primary intensity over a mid-weight palate that ends with a blast of very crisp acidity.

Creme de cassis, freshly picked blueberries, crushed violets, hot stones, dried sage and thyme, charcoal and bark. Full body, tightly worked tannins and a long yet tight finish. The 2015 Chablis 1er Cru Les Vaillons Vieilles Vignes comes from a parcel of 70-year-old vines adjacent to Sécher. Samuel Billaud commented he has found that this particular cuvée has become more saline and minerally in barrel. It has a very complex bouquet with scents of wet limestone, yellow plum and a touch of white peach. The palate is fresh on the entry with a touch of orange rind, steely and linear; it is strict for a Vaillons, with a precise and stony finish that lingers nicely in the mouth. This should represent an enticing Chablis once in bottle.

The 2016 Chablis 1Er Cru Vaillons Vieilles Vignes comes from 70-year-old vines raised only in stainless steel. I like the aromatics here#this has a sense of purpose with vivid scents of orange zest and a touch of lychee. The palate is tensile right from the start thanks to that killer line of acidity. There is great depth here and the harmonious finish feels assured and elegant. Great potential and for me this is a serious step up from the Chablis Village and certainly worth the few extra dollars.

The 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre is also performing well, though it doesn't attain quite the heights I thought it might a year ago. A youthfully reserved bouquet of white flowers, citrus oil and honeycomb precedes a medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping palate that's nicely concentrated, concluding with a chalky finish but without the electric energy one looks for in a top vintage.

One of the highlights in this range, the 2017 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru captures all of the energy and tension that makes wines from this site so distinctive. White flowers, mint, crushed rocks, slate and citrus all pulse through the 2017. The style is all about classical austerity, translucence and crystalline purity.

The 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu confirms its strong showing last year, unwinding in the glass with aromas of peach, grapefruit and honeycomb, with some subtle musky floral tones waiting in the wings that I suspect will become more prominent with time. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, concentrated and gourmand, with racy acids and a long, saline finish. Billaud tells me that this was cropped at less than 20 hectoliters per hectare, and that shows.

The 2017 Chablis Mont de Milieu 1er Cru is an absolutely exquisite rendering of this site. Rich, layered and beautifully resonant in the glass, the 2017 possesses tons of depth, energy and complexity. Dried pear, marzipan, lemon confit, spice, petrol, dried flowers and chamomile are some of the many notes that grace this wonderfully inviting Chablis from Samuel Billaud.

The 2015 Chablis Grand Cru Bougros has a splendid bouquet with a very subtle reductive note. There is real delineation and poise here, with walnut and smoke emerging with time and struck flint emerging later. The palate is well defined with a fine bead of acidity (although the acidity level is lower than in Blanchot). Touches of blackcurrant leaf and quince dovetail into a very energetic finish that lingers for over a minute. Superb.

Billaud's 2017 Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot was another wine cropped at very low yields, around 20 hectoliters per hectare in this case. Offering up a pretty bouquet of citrus blossom, peaches and pears that's subtly framed by a discrete touch of oak, it's full-bodied, satiny and layered, with a broad attack, a fleshy core and a precise but delicately exotic finish.

Billaud produced a mere 450 liters of the 2017 Chablis Grand Cru Bougros, a full-bodied, fleshy wine that's deep and concentrated, redolent of honeycomb, orange rind and vanilla pod. Despite its broad shoulders, it's racy and precise and concludes with a saline finish, but it won't be easy to find.

Cropped at a meager 15 hectoliters per hectare, Billaud produced only two barrels of the 2017 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos. Offering up aromas of musky peach, mandarin and green apple, it's full-bodied, deep and textural, with the structure of a red wine on the palate. This is a powerful, super concentrated Les Clos, but it's also nicely balanced.

Very long and tight on the finish, this is still a baby that will need a couple of years to open up. Tasted in Zurich, November 2018.
