Einkellern!
91/100 Punkte Falstaff Weinguide Deutschland 2017 Riesling. Alte Reben. Lesenswert.
90/100 Punkte Vinous June 2017 This cuvée from various old-vine parcels (largely in the Leiwener Klostergarten) reflects relatively early harvest dates to insure freshness. The feel is firm but polished, and there is a lovely sense of lift, even at slightly more than 12 percent alcohol. Fresh lime and orange are invigoratingly marked by their peels but more than brightly juicy enough to deliver consummate refreshment. Intimations of crushed stone begin on the nose, and the finish proves admirably transparent to alkaline and stony nuances as well as possessed of saliva-liberating salinity. Loewen left the wine on its lees well into spring and a portion of it was raised in cask.
96/100 Punkte James Suckling June 2018 One of the best Auslese of the vintage on the Mosel. Great concentration of apricots and brilliant mineral acidity with a touch of sweetness beautifully integrated. The vitality of the finish literally takes your breath away. Drink or hold.
92/100 Punkte James Suckling September 2017 Quite a big, rich wine, but with serious elegance and a delicate spiciness that make it hard to resist. There's nothing superficial about the long, complex finish. Drink now.
91/100 Punkte Falstaff Weinguide Deutschland 2017 Mosel it, baby! Check it out mit steiniger Mineralik, celebrate die Birne! Dig it, 100 years of MCHerrenberger-Wurzelechte-Reben
90/100 Punkte Vinous June 2017 From the ungrafted 1903 planting formerly farmed by Schmitt-Wagner (just not quite as old as the oldest in the Maximin Herrenberg section), this delivers site-typical lingonberry and fresh lime tinged with fresh ginger on a penetrating nose and tangy, juicy yet simultaneously subtly creamy palate. I was amazed to discover that it harbors 40 grams of residual sugar, as its sweetness is understated and perfectly integrated. The lusciously fruit-dominated finish is buoyant and refreshingly sustained. This may well pick up some complexity with bottle age, although it#s already hard to resist.
93/100 Punkte Robert Parker April 2018 From ungrafted vines planted on red slate in 1902, the 2016 Riesling (Longuich) Maximin Herrenberg "GG" opens with an intense and concentrated bouquet of ripe stone fruits intermixed with weathered slate aromas. Round, lush, crystalline and piquant on the palate, this is a powerful and aromatic Riesling with a firm but elegant and persistent structure. The acidity is fine but nervy, and the very good finish is compact and salty. A promising wine for the next 15 years.
92/100 Punkte Robert Parker Dec 2017 Entirely from old vines in the Hallgartener Jungfer and macerated for 30 to 36 hours prior to the fermentation and aging in 600-liter Halbstück vats, the 2015 Rheingau Riesling Trocken "Revoluzzer" opens with an intense, fresh and concentrated bouquet of ripe, tropical fruits intermixed with smoky/mineral and discreet oaky flavors. Despite its ripeness and richness, the "Revoluzzer" (revolutionist) is quite pure and elegant on the complex nose. On the palate, this is a full-bodied, rich and elegant but also fresh and tensioned Riesling with oaky and herbal flavors. It is tightly structured but well balanced and salty-vital in the finish, which reveals a juicy Riesling with chalky/mealy tannins and lingering salinity. It's a bit of a Burgundian Rheingau Riesling, if you so will. This has 13.5% alcohol. The acidity (no malic) is significantly lower than in the other Rieslings but ripe and vital. Bottled in September 2016 (screwcap), tasted in Nov
91/100 Punkte Robert Parker April 2017 The 2015 Riesling Leiwener Laurentiuslay Spätlese is clear and smoky on the nose and displays a ripe but fresh, precise and pretty complex flavor. Full-bodied, intense and very elegant this is a well structured and salty Spätlese with very fine acidity and lingering piquancy. Very stimulating. Should be an excellent gastronomic wine in 5-10 years, and still in 20 years, when it will taste significantly drier than today.
92/100 Punkte Vinous June 2017 Fennel, tarragon, sassafras and orange peel make for an at once pungently bittersweet but also subtly cooling aromatic and flavor profile, to which ripe pear and hints of vanilla backed by a creamy texture add an allure reminiscent of Wehlener Sonnenuhr. The buoyant, lusciously fruited finish offers plenty of zesty and piquant counterpoint as well as transparency to a vivid wet stone undertone.
91/100 Punkte James Suckling, July 2017 This village wine (Hargardun is the old name for the village of Hallgarten) is brimming with lemon and ripe apple flavors, the palate at once juicy and racy. The finish is very fresh and seriously mineral. Drink through 2022.
92/100 Punkte James Suckling September 2017 A serious wine with a Reine Claude aroma and a big, earthy palate. A crisp finish that has some complexity. Still a little tight. This will be even more impressive from 2018.
92/100 Punkte James Suckling September 2017 While many Rheinhessen pinot blancs live entirely from the fruit aromas and lively acidity, this has some Chablis-like chalky character and creaminess at the powerful finish. Best from 2018.
