92/100 Punkte James Suckling September 2017 While many Rheinhessen pinot blancs live entirely from the fruit aromas and lively acidity, this has some Chablis-like chalky character and creaminess at the powerful finish. Best from 2018.
92/100 Punkte Robert Parker December 2018 From lime-sandstone and mica schist soils, the 2015 Leithaberg Weissburgunder opens precise and crystalline on the rather reductive but challenging nose. It is lush and juicy on the palate, where it displays a firm mineral but also tannic structure and some discreet oaky flavors toward the finish. This is a round, creamy and very persistent Pinot Blanc with lingering sur lie aromas. It is very elegant but still very young. Tasted October 2018.
95/100 Punkte Falstaff Weinguide 2017/18 Helles Gelb, Siberreflexe.
94/100 Punkte Robert Parker April 2016 Tement's rare 2013 Weissburgunder Zieregg (total production: 1,500 bottles) is sourced from 30-year-old vines and fermented and aged for one year in pièces, before the wine is racked into two 700-liter barrels until the bottling in May 2015. It is a great Austrian terroir wine, very intense and pure on the nose, highly elegant and noble; it is almost aristocratic in its lemon, chalk and crushed stone flavors. Full-bodied, rich and piquant, this is a gorgeously mineral Pinot Blanc full of finesse and power. Its length is as terrific as its tension. A great wine, ready to challenge the finest white Burgundies. This Zieregg wine will be released later this year. Drink between 2017 and 2028.
90+/100 Punkte Robert Parker Dec 2017 The 2015 Rheingau Riesling Spätlese Winkeler Hasensprung has a clear and precise but reductive bouquet with SO2 notes. Based on 40% botrytis grapes, this is a light but juicy-intense, finessed and promising Spätlese whose terroir character is completely hidden for the moment and probably for the next 10-20 years. However, this is a refreshing, linear and piquant picture-book Spätlese for this highly reductive style. Fermented in a 600-liter Halbstück, the 2015 was bottled with 9% alcohol and almost 59 grams of residual sugar in April 2016 under screwcap. Tasted in November 2017.
93/100 Punkte James Suckling August 2017 A dangerous wine that mixes juicy peachy fruit with some dark and explosive elements to create an inspiring cocktail far removed from the global wine norms. Drink through 2040.
92+/100 Punkte Robert Parke Jun 2016 The 2012 Zagersdorf Sankt Laurent is still discreet on the nose and offers smoky notes along with cedar and fine cassis aromas. Full-bodied, concentrated and intense, this is a powerful and silky textured Blaufränkisch with great finesse, tension and intense fruit aromas. The 2012 is more meaty, fruity and round than the 2013, but does not have the precision, tension and tightness of the successor. The finish is still a bit rough.
92/100 Punkte Robert Parker December 2018 Even lighter in alcohol than the 2016, Schuster's 2014 Zagersdorf Sankt Laurent was bottled with 12% alcohol and offers a pure, fresh and stony nose of sour cherries, underwood and spicy/flinty notes. Silky, pure and fresh on the palate, this is a straight, taut, fruity (cherry) red with a tight, somewhat austere but well-concentrated finish. Coming form 55-year-old vines, this is a quite concentrated, complex and mineral St Laurent that is beautiful to drink and even to pair with fish. Very stimulating. Tasted October 2018.
Idealer Aperitif.
90/100 Punkte Wine Spectator Jun 15, 2012 An aromatic note of bread dough accents hints of lemon zest, green pear and mineral here. This is balanced, but definitely leans towards the firm and austere side, so try this with food. Drink now through 2017.
88/100 Punkte Robert Parker December 2018 From different vineyards and soils on the shores of the Lake Neusiedl, the 2016 Burgenland Zweigelt is pure, fresh and bloody on the fleshy nose. Dark cherry and floral notes lead to a medium-bodied, fresh and silky-textured palate that reveals stimulating purity and mineral freshness. This wine is straight and tight but also transparent#a lovely and refreshing red! Tasted October 2018.
91/100 Punkte Wine Spectator, Nov 15, 2018 This graceful red exhibits fresh acidity that cuts through the dense flavors of plum, blackberry and wild herbs. Features soft, well-integrated tannins, which are focused by the acidity. The spicy, mouthwatering finish expands over the palate and invites you for another sip. Drink now through 2024.
93/100 Punkte Falstaff Weinguide 2013 Helles Kirschrot, Orangereflexe.
