The 2007 Tinto Gloria Reynolds is the winery's elite blend, released only in certain years. With a practice of very late releases, this should be next in line. Seen for a preview in Portugal, and hopefully it will be seen again, this looks quite fine. Seemingly smoother and rounder than earlier versions of this bottling, it has beautiful, fresh fruit, better-integrated tannins and fine texture # not that it#s shy in structure. It is well-built overall. It seems easily to be the best wine I#ve seen yet from this property. To be sure, it isn't going to be cheap # but it costs a lot of money to release wines this late, so take that into account as well. Drink now-2027.

The 2004 Tinto Gloria Reynolds -Cathedral is an equal blend of Trincadeira and Alicante Bouschet, aged in new French oak for 24 months. This is simply the old Gloria Reynolds Tinto with a new name, Cathedral only indicating a re-release program. Julian Cuellar Reynolds said: Gloria Cathedral 2004 is an old harvest, the lot of every Gloria that I keep in the cellar for a second release after 12 years. I was not sold on this originally, but it is very impressive now that it is mature-and that maturity is the key to success here. The tannins have moderated, the oak has been pulled in and, most importantly, there is a glorious medley of complex flavors typical of many maturing wines, some earth, forest floor, dried cassis and so on. The texture is gorgeous, too, silky and sensual. If the fruit seems fully mature, the structure still gives it energy. The tannins are controlled, but there is still grip and tension on the finish. Perhaps it was th

The 2010 Julian Reynolds Grande Reserva is mostly Alicante Bouschet, with 20% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. It was aged for varying lengths of time in new French oak (the Alicante the longest, for 24 months; then down to 12 months for the Syrah). It comes in at 14.5% alcohol. This is the spot in the lineup that the winery starts to deliver some sophistication and intrigue. This is beautifully structured, still showing power at its age (even after aeration). It is always tightly wound, never sloppy. Then, it adds pleasingly mature fruit. It is nuanced with beef, strawberries and other red fruits. It is rather complex as it lingers beautifully on the finish. It seems to have at least a decade more of life in it#maybe more.

The 2015 Branco Nossa Calcário is a single-vineyard Bical that looks impressive. It was aged for five months in partly (20%) new French oak and comes in at just 12% alcohol. When I first saw this in Portugal, it seemed nice but mute, not quite as impressive as I hoped it would be in this fine Branco vintage. Retasting it at home a couple of months later showed it blossoming. Now, it was suddenly intense and powerful, not to mention very concentrated for this grape. It simply fills the mouth and takes control of the palate. Laced with stones, steel and a bit of flint, this has a very earthy flavor profile. If you're looking for fruity, this probably won't be it. I was, in fact, a little concerned early on that the flinty notes were a bit too much, but it kept improving while open. With more time in the bottle, it should come into even better balance. It is worth betting on this Branco--complex, rather intense and concentrated. It may yet be ent

The 2015 Nossa Calcario red is a Baga from three vineyards with an average vine age of 80 years, aged in used French and Slavonian oak for 18 months. This is a fine representation of the vintage and the region. Showing impeccable balance, silky texture, grace and wonderful mid-palate finesse, it has that hard-to-find ability to be elegant, but it's never thin. It resembles a fine Barbaresco in many ways. It is also very fresh, the natural acidity of Baga coming to the foreground, mingling with small hits of wood and some fruitier nuances. The wood blows off quickly; those opening nuances are very minor. With time, they simply seem to disappear. Tasting this a second time, it seemed a bit sharp and tart. When I tasted it the first time, the context was different#namely, it was next to the Missão reviewed this issue, which seemed much tarter. This "normal" Nossa red is just Baga, though. The big hit of acidity does not overwhelm the wine. It lift

The 2015 Prazo de Roriz is a roughly equal blend of Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional and Tinta Barroca, with small bits of Tinta Roriz and Tinta Amarela, aged for six months in used French oak. This is typically a good value. This might be my favorite in some time. There isn't a lot of concentration in the mid-palate and it isn't the type of wine you want to age for 20 years. It's not $50, either. It's a very nice bargain with many virtues. The fruit here is just gorgeous, vivid, pure and clean. The structure lifts it and delivers it beautifully to the palate. The texture is silky and the finish is just a bit tight. Overall, it is hard to lean up more on this since it doesn't have a lot of upside potential, but if you drink it over the next few years, you might like it even better than the score would suggest.

The 2008 Licoroso Robert Reynolds is a fortified Alicante Bouschet with 19% alcohol and 114.5 grams per liter of residual sugar. It was aged for 24 months in French oak vats, bottled with a long cork and then held back for three years in bottle. Let's just say up front: this is a "wow" wine. Big, concentrated and powerful, this is impressive from the get-go. That said, it isn't a mindless fruit bomb and it isn't really all that sweet, either. In fact, structure typically dominates at the outset. Like a fine, dry-ish Port, it soaks up a lot of the sugar and actually finishes, relatively speaking, rather dry. As it aired out, it came into better balance between fruit and structure, but that tightly wound intensity always remained, even as the days went by. The aromatics lean to earthy and beefy and then it finishes with some Alicante complexity and lingers. This is very fine--and far better balanced if drunk in the low or even mid-60s than room t

Gorgeous, with warm plum reduction and gently steeped raspberry, blackberry and boysenberry fruit flavors forming the core, all inlaid with warm ganache and smoldering tobacco accents. Very plush in feel, but has no lack of energy, as everything sails beautifully through the long finish. A late echo of anise completes the seduction. Best from 2035 through 2055.
