The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon shows an inky dark appearance with dark garnet color saturation. It offers a fine and chiseled aromatic profile with dark berry fruit followed by spice, anise seeds and an unmistakable balsamic note that reminds me of eucalyptus oil. This is a mid-weight expression of the grape that is both accessible and easy to drink straight out of the gate. It ages in neutral oak for 12 months. Some 20<(>,<)>000 bottles were made.

Fleshy, spice-tinged raspberry and bitter cherry flavors open up slowly and turn sweeter with air. Distinctly concentrated but lively as well, closing with firm grip and repeating cherry and floral notes. Nothing easygoing here (it does check in at 14.5% alcohol, by the way), despite its relatively humble appellation.

Then multilayered and dense, with zingy acidity lifting the mineral red fruit and floral flavors. Finishes long, sweet and suave. An outstanding Rosato characterized by great precision and sneaky concentration. Made with 100% Nerello Mascalese via cold maceration in press for 6-12 hours at 10°C followed by fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. A new wine from Donnafugata, and I would say they have a real winner on their hands. Well done.

Stains the palate with concentrated, mineral-tinged raspberry, bitter cherry and floral pastille flavors that show sharp delineation and spicy lift. In a distinctly powerful style but in no way lacking for finesse, delivering strong, red-fruit-driven thrust on an impressively long, mineral-tinged finish.
