Bottled with a moderate 12.8% alcohol, the 2016 Rosso del Ticino Riserva Arcotondo has impressively intense yet pure, elegant and refreshing bouquet of wild cherries, blackthorns and coolish vegetal notes. The wine is concentrated but lush and elegant on the palate, with remarkable finesse and freshness. This is a charming and fleshy blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc that will benefit from further bottle aging, but it is already excellent and has remarkable vitality. Tasted in October 2019.

The 2015 Oberflachs Auf der Mauer has a deep, pure, fine, licorice and dark cherry bouquet with oaky/toasty aromas. On the palate this is a charming, rich, pretty juicy and intense but rather broad and saturating Pinot Noir from a very steep, terraced, warm and dry vineyard. This is pretty rich and powerful but a less exciting Pinot Noir compared to the Rüeget.

The 2015 Osterfingen Oberhallau Blauburgunder Zwaa offers a clear, fresh, fruit-intense and spicy bouquet of ripe, thick-skinned cherries along with some toasty notes. The full-bodied wine is silky textured, elegant and reveals rich, intense fruit along with a lot of power. The tannins are fine and ripe, the finish very aromatic and concentrated. An impressive but powerful Pinot Noir from Schaffhausen that is sourced from two different plots, one on heavy clay soils, the other on gravels.

The 2016 Thalheim Chalofe starts reductive on the bright, cherry-scented nose. Meaty and fruity on the silky-elegant textured palate and provided with fine but tightly woven tannins, this is a concentrated and tensioned Pinot with purity, transparency and freshness. Very long and tight on the finish, this is still a baby that will need a couple of years to open up. Tasted in Zurich, November 2018.
